I want to buy a new knife. I have narrowed it down to these three #55 hounds tooth, #47 viper, and #92 talon.
Would be used for light to medium use(opening packages, cutting rope, cleaning the occasional fish) Can you weigh in on the pros and cons of each?

You can't go wrong with any of those choices but out of the 3 I only own the 55 Houndstooth and it's a great knife. I've handled the other two and they are excellent knives as well but I tend to favor knives 3.5" and smaller so that is why I have bought the other two. One thing I noticed between the 47's and 92's that I've handled is the spring on the 47 is much stiffer than the 92. For me the 92 felt ideal with a pull around a 5 or so and the 47's were more like a 7 or 8. The 92 also just felt a little smaller in hand than the 47. Probably didn't help you any but that is just my opinion on those 3. :)

The only comment I'll make is that for cleaning fish I like to have a bit of belly on my blade, so I'd steer clear of the wharncliffes.

I don't have a houndstooth, but have heard they're great knives if you can find one in the wharncliffe. I have both the viper and talon, and of those two, I would recommend the talon, not in the wharncliffe but in the narrow spear. You could definitely clean fish with that blade, and do the other also.

Just my opinion.

That makes perfect sense to me

However, Brusletto used to do a specialist fixed-blade fish knife, the fiske-sprett, which has a wharncliffe blade, so I guess they must work for some people.

I think that I could clean a fish with a #47 but I would rather have a separate fish knife with a long flexible belly blade.

My #55 houndstooth hides in my pocket easily and my #47 is a little longer (fills my hand better).

Out of the three choices Buckaroo, I would go with a spear bladed Talon. I have all three you have listed and I think you will find that the Talon will serve your needs the best.
