need a camp/hiking fix blade.. looking at a Daniel winkler field knife and a Chris reeve 5.5 green beret. Need help to decide....I would happy with either one.

Of those two, probably the Winkler. But, I would not go for that for my Camp knife. IMHO
Take a good look at the knife makers for sale area here. If you don't find the exact knife you want, you can find someone to make it, usually at a very good price.
I would take a good look at Gollik knives. His knives are amazing for the price. One of the steels he uses is Sleipner, which is perfect for camp/field knives. Also uses Elmax. You can get it for under 200, and exactly what you want, size, shape, sheath, finger choil on blade, handle material, blade coating, etc.
Another knife, one that will be arriving at my place tomorrow, so I can say how it is then. A little more in price, but will be tough as nails! The steel chosen is amazing stuff. And you can speak with the owner about small mods, like taking the Swedge off, or removable fasteners for the handle.

Another good picture of that one without the Swedge is here: https://www.huntsmanknifeco.com/about/

Bradford knives makes a great product.
Busse knives makes a great product.
Carothers knives makers a great product.
I would say Survive! knives makes a great product, but their wait times are beyond insane, so you would have to buy secondary market.

Good luck on the choice making. It really is a great time to be a knife Knut, so many great knives to choose from!

Winkler makes great knives, great steel choices (on the tough side), molten salt heat treatment. So my vote goes to Winkler Knives.

Great references there! Take a look also to Kornalski knives (Jamall here at the forum). Top guy, top steel choices, top quality. He does have some real candies to sell right now, I think.

Between the 2 you mentioned, I'd say the Winkler. More general blade and handle would make it more useful for a variety of tasks.

I'd second what ATJ999 said and go with one from one of the custom makers like Gollik. I tried to grab one of his offerings a while back for camping and general outdoors stuff but missed out (https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/gollik-sleipner-knives-sold.1506111/). Contacted him and now have a similar one on it's way to me now. :)

The knife you linked to is awesome BT!
Extremely clean lines on that beauty!

Thanks! When I first saw it it was not listed as sold yet and was a bit disappointed when he replied saying someone else already bought it. He offered to make me one and I jumped all over that offer. lol

The one he made for me is a little different, but still an elegant beauty:

I own both the Winkler hunting knife w/maple handle & the 5.5 GB.
The difference is night and day if compactness is necessary.
The sheath on the Winkler is compact, smaller, & has a tighter retention. The 5.5 sheath is a monster, great build, looks molle compatible.
Both knives are great, I carry the Winkler hunting knife tho everyday, & is still the sharpest blade I own of them all. I trust both these knives, but, different tools for different uses.
