Which knife from these 3 is the best?

Gerber LMF II
Buck Nighthawk (short)
Sog Seal Pup (made in taiwan? )

Or is there any similar but better knife?

Thanks.

Rat 3 ,Randall Adventure Training

Fallkniven Wmi or H1

Scrapyard YKCG if you can find one. I just got mine yesterday and it is fantastic.

Busse Game Warden or even the SwampRat Swamp Warden.
GW.

SW

Spyderco Street beat or moran

my preference of what is listed would be the buck nighthawk. personally i'd look for the larger version without the serrations. if you check the trade boards you can pick one up for a pretty reasonable amount. I'm not a very big fan of gerber, and the aus 6 steel sog uses doesn't do much for me. but really go with the one you like, that feels the best to you. good luck and let us know what you decide on .
btw you're up in the great white north you need to look at a grohmann, never heard anything bad about them.

Thanks. I dont really like the blade shape of the grohmanns though. I wish so bad I could afford a busse. Where is the seal made? and cant you get a short nighthawk without the serrations? I prefer shorter blades.
God I have alot of questions.

Quick question, have you ever handled a grohmann? I personally feel that the blade shapes are great for general tasks, My personal prefrence would be a grohmann #1,#3,#4 over any of the knives listed. Just my 2 cents

No I havent, but I mean the looks. Im sure they'r real practical and all but they resemble kitchen knives alot.

So you want somthing with a more tactical look. If thats the case dont look to me, thats way outta my league 8)

Actually my ideal knife would be a 5 inch blade with a stag handle and brass handguard. But I need a tough, do anything knife and I'm too scared to properly use my pretty knives so its slightly tactical for this one.
(I wouldnt even consider a strider or dark-ops :barf: )

Bark River makes some not too bad stuff , some of it not too pricey . I would rate the Gromans over the Nighthawk . They may not be pretty but they perform well . Bark river has some stuff that ranges from plain jane to very pretty . Their stuff is tuff .

I agree with your original order:
Gerber LMF II
Buck Nighthawk (short)
Sog Seal Pup

Short knives, that is to say, anything within the 4 to 5.5 inch blade length; makes excellent carry length.
The Benchmade Nimravus is kinda of expensive being anything above $150; but its well worth your consideration.
As is the Ka-Bar Impact Spear Point in D2 steel.

But the real question should be, "best" for what purpose?

First time see Grohmann mentioned. I will have a Grohmann one day, it is quite an original knife.

Field and Stream magazine tested all 3 of these in the Feb 08 plus a Spyderco. Here is the way they ranked.
1. Gerber LMF II 4 1/2 Stars
2. Spyderco Bill Moran FB01P 4 Stars
3. SOG Seal Pup Elite 3 Stars
4. Buck Short Nighthawk 3 Stars

They did a stump drive with a sledgehammer on all of them. The SOG and the Buck broke that is why the lower score for them.

Gerber: Are all LMF IIs part. serrated. If so, that would be a deal breaker on a woods knife for me.

Buck: Noss has a video on his site on the Buck. It held up to his abuse very well.

SOG: A lot of people like this knife. Finger grooves would irritate me in short order though.

That said, they are all good knives. Out of the three listed, I think I would like the Buck the best, but you might not. If you have a local dealer that sells all three, I would go and handle them. The best steel in the world can't make up for a knife that doesn't fit your hand.
