No credit card.

TWBryan: "If those are your only choices I would get the Kershaw Nerve.I don't care for the steel in any of them."
Thank you. Aside from price, they each have an appealing point.

Zigosity: "Yeah, I'd get something online if I were you... I'm in Canada too and have never had a single problem shipping knives across the boarder."
Read above.

frontline29's: "You can't go wrong Spyderco military!"
That one isn't an option. There are some Spyderco's, but they're all out of my price range.

mqqn: "Hi biujee -
Of those, and I only have experience with other knives from those three manufacturers, I would go with the Kershaw.
My experience is that the Kershaws feel higher-quality in hand, and come sharper than knives I have seen or owned from SOG or Gerber.
In response to why nobody had helped you in a thread that is only a day old, many people here (more-so than in other forums) will only respond if they have direct experience. Your question was about three specific low-end knives, and it is entirely possible that not many people have direct experience with those three models.
Don't get impatient - people here are as friendly and helpful as any group I have been part of on any other forum, hands down.
Welcome to the forum, and good luck in your search for your perfect knife.
best regards -
mqqn"
Hi mqqn,
Thanks for reminding me that things will become clearer when the choices are actually in my hand. Impatient? Check out this response, dude.

I'm guilty of guilting, though.

>>>>re: "I've just recently become interested in carrying a folding knife. My choices are limited because of location, transportation and the fact that I'm poor.
The knives available for purchase are the Kershaw 'Nerve', the SOG 'Salute' and the Gerber 'Icon'. If that was your choice, which one would you buy (and why)?
Thank you."<<<<
RevDevil: "Welcome to the forums! Sorry you felt slighted a bit by the lack of responses. Onto your question:
I would also vote Kershaw. However, I would try looking for a Leek or a Chive. Gerber is no longer an option for me at all, their QC fell drastically over time. SOG is decent, but can be hit or miss from what I've experienced. Although, come of their fixed blades are decent for the price (steel, grind, etc).
Kershaw with confidence!
I've heard the "hit or miss" thing about Kershaw. I didn't feel slighted. I thought no one was interested and since the thread was quickly on page 2, I didn't want it to get buried.

Good call, I was thinking the same."
I'll check it out.

None of those are options.

jeffa: "I like the length and style of the Gerber and SOG better than the Kershaw. I also like the G-10 of the SOG more than the aluminum handle of the Gerber. I also like the exposed tang on the rear of the SOG better.
I am in Northern Minnesota at the border and it gets very cold as your area does also. I prefer the G-10 of the SOG in my pocket in the winter over the aluminum of the Gerber. I also prefer the handle contour of the SOG over the Gerber in this case also.
All that being said I have never held any of these and know that a lot of times when I actually get to hold a knife that I think I like it doesn't always turn out that I like the actual feel of it. Just looks alone I like the SOG."
I'm favouring the SOG, too, but I'm now also considering spending a bit more money.

RoadLessTraveled: "+1.
I haven't so much as held any of the three knives."
Alrighty then.

gazz98: "Hi, welcome to the forums. For, it's a close tie between the SOG and Kershaw. I'd actually pick the SOG since I prefer a lockback vs a liner lock.

I think a lockback is safer because the closed blade is under tension to stay closed. I see the value of being able to open a folding knife quickly, but I haven't figured out the big deal about a quick close.
