Hey guys, trying to decide which one I want more:Emerson Super Commander or a Emerson Super CQC-7. I like the 15 mini but I want a larger primary defense kinfe and I cannot decide which one....so what u think?

Super 7 is one fella knife. It's an absolute beast with its slick lines.

I have a mini comm, the edge isn't really a true v grind. When you sharpen it, you still have to sharpen it as if it was a chisel.

I have a Super 7 and a regular commander. Both are great knives, but very different. The handle of the 7 is big even for me, and I have big hands. I wear an XL glove in most cases. The commander is perfect for my hands, I think the super commander would be too big. So depending on your hands I would go with the regular models, especially the commander. The super 7's blade is worth the extra handle size in my opinion.

I regularly carry a Super Commander. For a defensive knife I think it is one of Mr. Emerson's finest designs. The 7 is great but I prefer the Commander's grip and recurve blade for self defense use.

I say it depends on your training, if your not trained don't try to fight with a knife. If you are trained in close in-fighting I would say the Commander. It's better for reverse grip and hooking styles. For saber grip style, I think the CQC7 would be better for thrusting attacks. I am trained, but have never used my own knives ever in a fight. I always took the other guys knife from him. Always got cut, but I chose where and when. Plus, he didn't have the knife anymore. the size of the knife really doesn't matter. You have to get just as close with those knives as you would with your mini 15, which is a great knife and more than enough to get into trouble with. Be carefull out there brother!

Yeah I like the Commander the handle feels better in my hand, the '7' is a little awkward to hold, a far cry from my original mid-sized CCQ-7w.

No one ever claimed the edge wasn't a chisel grind. ALL Emerson knives have a chisel edge.

I picked up a Super Commander recently and it's amazing. Best knife I own, and the new satin/stonewash dual tone finish looks great to boot

As for the blade grinds, the non-chisel emerson knives are a "V" grind, just done on one side. This makes for easier field sharpening as you only have to worry about one side. A true chisel grind is completely flat on the backside - the commander and other similar models aren't flat on one side.

Flip a coin, they're both staple Emerson sellers. You're definitely right on the money with the super 7 though. I just got a mini and the thing is effing tiny compared to the A-100 I got. I think a 14 would be right for me if I wanted a smaller knife.
