Which one?

I am going to be buying a new knife. The 2 I have it narrowed down to are the Manix 2 with the BD-1 blade or a regular Paramilitary 2. I am fine with either of the lock mechanisms. Assuming you didn't already own either of these, which would you purchase?

I own and really like both. The Manix 2 is beautiful and comfortable, slightly easier to deploy and release (IMHO - others will disagree), but slightly heavier. The Para 2 is amazing as well, lighter and super comfortable. If the lock type is no concern to you, then I would decide based on either you like a full flat ground blade (Para2) or a hollow ground blade (Manix2). And if weight is a concern, go with the Para2.

The Para2 is widely regarded as an "essential" Spyderco and will probably win any type of "vote" count done here. But the Manix2 is, IMHO, just about an equal knife. I love them both.

I dont have a manix but do have a para 2 and I must say the para 2 is an awesome knife, I really like the looks of the manix but haven't gotten to actually hold one yet. Why not just buy one now and get the other one when you have the funds and you can choose which one you like better. But get the para 2 first lol

I have a sprint manix 2 in ffg, and a sprint para 2 coming, and honestly either one you go for is the right choice. The ergos, blade shape, etc. is the best on both I think you really need to hold them both in your hand and release the lock and open the blade a good amount of times until you make a decision. Each knife has its own fan base by everyone and ive come to learn that which is why i had to go out and hold the para 2 before ordering the one thats in the mail
Cheers on whatever decision you make, and enjoy it ! :D

Para2 is one of the best knives I own. The ergonomics on this knife are bar none. Excellent knife, I highly recommend you try one.

P2 for sure... Thinner, lighter, better ergos, carries smaller in the pocket

Para 2...

I love my PM2, personally I would get that and then the Manix 2 XL when it comes out.

I personally wouldn't buy the lightweight (plastic) manix 2 with the BD-1 blade. Given the choice between the two you're looking at, I'd take the Para 2.

EDIT: A lot of you folks seem to think the OP is trying to decide between the standard Manix 2 and the standard Para 2. He's talking about the Lightweight Manix 2 with the BD-1 blade. The Para 2 in this case is the heavier knife.

Now, if it were a choice between the 154cm Manix 2 or even a sprint run M2 and the Para 2, I'd have a hell of a hard time choosing between the two. In the end I'd probably go with the Manix 2, but they're both equally awesome knives IMHO.

I own both too (which isn't any big thing here ... seems more the norm), and agree. Both are excellent. I think it boils down to weight (Para2 wins), price (Manix2 wins) or what type of lock up you want. Either way is a fine choice.
