Which Paramilitary 2 (non-sprint)?

Ok - really thinking about a PM2. A sprint run, some being very cool, is not in my budget and not generally available anyways. So - what do you guys think of the black finish steel versus the satin finish? Is it simply a matter of color preference or are there other advantages/disadvantages to the DLC coating? I am assuming the camo and black scales are pretty much identical from a practical standpoint. Are camo knives more in demand and therefore a better investment? I guess I like all the PM2s pretty much the same as far as looks go.

My most carried knife is my all black Para 2. The dlc coating, while it protects the blade, tends to show wear more than other finishes. Personally I like it. I think the wear tells a story, its sort of a badge of honor. As far as function I have noticed no difference between dlc and other finishes. Hope that helps

Another vote for the all black. I have one and a green cts-204p sprint but carry the all black just because I love the black blade.

I have this exact dilemma right now -- absolutely think I've settled on one, then I change my mind and think the other looks better; I'm glad I've waited because I still waffle back and forth. I have mostly black handled knives, so I think the camo may be somewhat different and fun, but I'll probably stick with black and do the satin blade, even though I do like that all black look.

if you don't need a 'cool factor' then i would just stick to the plane black/silver version of this knife! and its the less expensive model at that,or just save up for a sprint run $$$$$.

I picked up the basic Black G10 and Satin. Perfect and still the sharpest with an occasional strop. About $95 if you camp out on the forums.

I fell for the Military afterwards black and satin for $90.The PM2 and Military compliment each other nicely. I carry the PM2 during the week at work and the Military on weekends.

I recommend the black handle/satin blade. They tend to be a little more smooth out of the box, due to the lack of a blade coating, and I think you'll like it more over time. I thought my camo handle/black blade was really cool when I got in a couple years ago, but think its a little less cool now.

This is my experience, as well.

Black vs. Satin- I think the satin is more practical. Depending on your viewpoint and what other knives you have, you might like the black or it might make a good change of pace in your collection. All of the blades in my EDC rotation were satin until I got a black/black Manix 2 XL and I like it for the change of pace.

I gave a blackedout PM2 as a gift, mostly for the 'tacticool' factor.

For a user, I'd go with satin/black - doesn't show wear as much and easier to maintain/restore.

But, for "a better investment", PM2's are not that much in demand that a user would still bring 'top dollar', so you're talking about a 'safe queen' and for that I'd go with a blackedout or the upcoming M4 release @ $150.

Its really hard to recommend one over the over because I love all four iterations of the knife. The digicam scales are kind of cool. I was never into black blades but I got my first one in the pm2 platform and ended up really liking it Their DLC coating is extremely tough. So, I would probably recommend the camo over the black and whichever blade floats your boat.

You're getting great advice here... I have just one minor 'data point' to add about glare.

The other weekend I was camping with my son - a beautiful, bright sunny day, without much shade available. My Camo/Black Blade PM2 and Southfork came along. After whittling with the PM2 for quite a while, I switched to the Southfork and was surprised how much the glare on its non-coated blade bothered me! In other words, if you're working outside in bright sun a lot, consider the lack of reflectivity as another "check mark" in the column for the black blade. (This is probably a bigger issue for a bigger knife like the Southfork - it was almost blindingly bright.) Good luck!
