Which parts of the khukuri are hardened?

Is it from the base all the way to the tip, or only the chopping area?

Could I get a khukuri hardened from the tip down to at least half way, and if possible is it recommended? Thanks
 
Standard is chopping area with hardness easing off toward tip and bolster. At BirGorkha we shoot for 58 to 60 Rc in the chopping area and try to ease off to 54 or 55 at tip and bolster.

If you get the tip to 60 Rc it will chip. We would rather have the tip bend than chip off.

Broken Arrow did an acid etch on one of his khukuris. Maybe he could describe for us how the hamon looked.

Yep that's right, the 22" Kobra made by Bura from spring steel, with wood handle. I dont suppose you could post me a pix of it? If you can, it would be much appreciated.

Oh and how much was the monetary difference between that and the King Kobra I returned?

Calm down there Jim, just remember, none of them are better than the special, the special is all you need... I say this after having to restrain myself from buying a BAS blem last night. LOL.

Going from softest to hardest my ceramic stone tells me:

spine
tip
behind the sharpened chopping zone
chopping zone

I suspect the tang is hardened a bit for lateral strenght. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this.

According to their owners the new FWCK are hardened almost to the tip.
