I have recently started collecting case xx knives right now I am just buying new knives,my question is out of the patterns currently available if you had to pick just one pattern to collect which one do you guys think would be the most collectable juding by past standards? I am new to this so any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks.

I would say whittlers.
Always a little scarce, but
they have many handle and
blade shape configurations.

In Cases I do the Doctors and Copperheads, both mini and full size. Also Trappers and mini Trappers.Hobos, theres another one. What about the Peanuts?Stag, now there is nice scale material.
Ramble on.
Find a pattern that you like and enjoy.:)

I'm still working on one of each ;)
If I had to pick one.... TX Toothpicks.
I don't know how 'collectable' that pattern is...
I just like'em :D

While I'm no expert on collecting, I'd second the motion for whittlers. There are many variations, enough to keep it interesting if this is the only pattern you collect.

Stockman and Trapper patterns also seem very popular (both as users and collectibles).

I collect Stockmen because I also carry and use them. Like nifrand said find a pattern you like - whether you like to carry and use them or jut like the shape, I'm sure whichever pattern you choose there will be others collecting out there.

For carrying, I really like whittlers, stockmen and trappers.

For collecting, I would probably go with Sunfish/Elephant Toenails. I really like these knives, but I find them to be too big for pocket carry.

I love the two blade jack pattern. Lots of variations, and there are many nice ones out there at reasonable prices. I just got a really sweet three and a half inch Voos, with a bone handle.

Thanks for all the replies those are some good suggestions,I guess time is the only way to tell what will be collectable but the theme here seems to be just collect the pattern that trips your trigger and I think that is sound advice,I think the next one I will look for is an elephants toenail, thanks everyone

As someone mentioned before, I also do not know how collectible this pattern is...but, I have always loved muskrats. :)

I myself started with the Canoe pattern, which is also a favorite for many collectors. But what I soon found out after some time was that collecting the same pattern started to become boring...I had collected canoes of all brands and configurations and it was no longer 'fun' to look for more.

This is when I deceided I had to take a new route...What I did was to collect every Winchester knife with Rogers, Brown & Peechseed handles (because they all have that black handle look) from 1987-1992. This way I got to collect all kinds of different patterns, which made it fun again and rewarding once I had found them. Gives ya something to think about before you go hog wild anyway buying all the same pattern. Another option is collect every pattern offered say in the new catalog or a certain year in your favorite handle material.

It took me 3yrs to the month to aquire all my Winchesters....It makes a very nice set:D

My favorite pattern is the Congress. I am fascinated with them. Stockman are nice as well as Canoes. I like the Copper head pattern also.

Whittlers are my favorites but after awhile any single pattern gets boring for me. So my suggestion is pick a major but keep an open mind. Sort of the same advice you would give to your kid when he/she starts college.
So many knives and so little time!

Welcome to Blade Forums iubill. We have met before on other venues and it is a pleasure having you here. I hope you enjoy this place and it's cast of characters at least as much as I do.

Thanks Gus! To tell you the truth I didn't realize I had not posted in bladeforums before. Have been lurking for awhile. Always fun to see what is going on and see some of the great pictures you post from time to time.:D
