From lurking on these forums I have learned that there are a lot of good looking knives out there that are cheap junk that people here laugh at. For most people I think a few cheap kitchen knives and 1 or 2 cheap work knifes or folding knives are enough in life, so I would not expect these people to be the ones who buys tacticool stuff. Those who do buy such I would expect to have more interest in knives than just the most basic everyday tasks, and therefore have more knowledge and being aware of the junky stuff. So who buys the cheap tacticool junk?

Most people:
Knife use is limited to kitchen and cutting boxes etc.
Only need the most basic ones.
No special interest in knives, therefore not buying tacticool knives.

Knife nutty people:
Do have more interest in knives than kitchen use etc.
Has more knowledge about knives, therefore likely to avoid tacticool knives.

So who buys the junky tacticool things (and think they are good)?

I pretty much tactiuncool. If it looks like something you would find in a Klingon proctologist's exam room, I say no thanks. Kapla!

I prefer to under-promise and over-deliver. Khaki's with a Kahr PM9 in the pocket, instead of a trench coat, tats and black fingernails with mom's cellphone in the pocket. That kind of thing. :)

I guess I'm like most people......however, I do like tacticool knives as well except those big over exaggerated ones.

I don't think 'tacticool' even registers on my senses. Ive been in little shops that have various items like coins, guns, tools, surplus gear, etc. and some of them have these kind of items under a glass counter. If that stuff registers at all, it must be an unconscious categorizing of all that as 'junk'. Two minutes after passing by such a counter, I couldnt tell you about anything that was in it because I'm completely uninterested.

People that are just getting interested in knives, but have no clue how deep the pool of quality goes. When I was in my late teens/very early 20's, I used to look at those knives a lot, and I wanted a few. Never bought any cuz I didn't trust how cheap they were, but I certainly checked a few out. Couldn't tell you anything about them now though.

Took about 5 years of EDC'ing a Kershaw Chive before I actually started looking at more nice knives. At the time I thought CRKT was pretty much top of the line...

I'll admit to having been there. My first year in college, I spent 35 bucks on a Smith and Wesson neck knife. I thought it was top of the line, buy far the fanciest knife I had owned up until then. I still have it to this day but at least now I know that A) I overpaid and B) there are much much nicer knives out there.

I like to buy expensive quality stuff. I like to think that my gear can do all that I need it to do and more, and last a long time. There are a LOT of people that don't know or recognize the difference, and buy based on price alone. Maybe they don't stress their gear that much, and if it breaks they throw it away and start over. A lot of people lose their stuff before it has a chance to break anyway. Now that I'm "income challenged" I have to be more frugal with my purchases. We have a Harbor Freight store in our city and I notice that most of their products are very inexpensive compared to similar products elsewhere. I like to wander through the store and look at their stuff, some of their products seem to be reasonable for the price, others I have serious questions about whether they will preform adequately so I don't buy those.

Teenagers.

Edit: Specifically ones who play too much CoD.

come on knives are overrated. when i was in middleschool i got into real tools. throwing stars are what its about.

i need a kydex sheath for mine,i prefer camo so no one will know its there if there c it. i live in the city so i need urban camo.
