Which production knife company do you feel has the best customer service?

I have only had to deal with the service departments of two companies and they were both excellent. The companies are Spyderco and Buck.

I've only had to deal with one. CRKT. I had a clip screw work loose and fall out on my CRKT/Crawford Falcon - small one. I sent a request and asked for a couple, fully expecting to pay for them. Got them in the mail a couple of weeks later.

I've only had to deal with two... Benchmade and Gerber... and they were both responsive to communications, swift in taking care of the issues... and the results turned out to be free in BOTH cases...

Chris Reeve and Spyderco tie for me, Benchmade comes in second, Buck next, and I have also had good experience with William Henry and Case Knives. Microtech is the worst on my list.

I've dealt with a number of the mainstream production companies over the years. From my personal experience, Buck stood at the top. They went far out of their way to make sure that I was a satisfied customer. I mean far out of their way.

I've had dealings with both Leatherman and Kershaw.

Both went WAY ... WAY out of their way to make sure that I was happy.

I have to say that I was MIGHTILY impressed by both service departments - It's one area that does not get the full credit that it deserves IMHO.

Only one I've dealt with is Kershaw. They were excellent. I called to buy a new clip because I had, through my own stupidity, ruined the one that came on the knife. Even when I explained that to the woman she refused to take any money, just sent the clip and 3 screws to me gratis. :)

I have never had to deal with any customer service departments but this thread is reassuring that good knife companies will treat me right if I need their help.

Typically, I'll lose a knife before I can break it. :(

I've had excellent experiences with Buck, corresponding with Joe Houser personally on several occasions. Sometimes I've had to send a knife back until they get it right, but their CS is fast and they make sure you're happy.

I'm not as thrilled with Busse and Swamp Rat. Email is hardly ever replied to and expected shipping dates are always hazy. The latter doesn't bother me as much, just communication and status updates aren't their strong points.

Kershaw and CRKT. MOD also has very good customer service. With Microtech and Spyderco I wasn't too satisfied.

Benchmade is #1, IMO. I can't imagine better service than I've gotten from them on several occasions, and that a couple of my friends have gotten. .
Spyderco, and CRKT also have great service in my experience.
Oh, and Gerber. Check this out. My boss had the pivot screw fall out of a heavily used Gerber folder, and contacted Gerber about getting a new screw. They asked him to send it in. His brand new replacement knife arrived 7 days after he mailed the old one. Delivery confirmation on the package, and postmark on the replacement told the story. 3 days to get there, 3 days back, 1 day turnaround. That's service!

Define customer service, it is actually means "provides service to the customer" it means one thing, if it is ordering dates it is another. Most companies will have decent service if you are positive and your problems small, try lodging a major complaint about performance issues, or even try to get performance statements out of some and how much service they are willing to provide is another matter.

If I have to choose between two companies and one is upfront and direct about the performance of their knives, what it can do, what you can do with it, deals with critism without personality, and has issues with shipping dates and punctuality, and another which is really fast and prompt when you are positive and friendly but is useless when you want to talk about performance then it is an easy decision to me.

Spyderco is fairly strong in both areas, Sal talks about performance readily and I have returned knives to them which worked well and Sal seeks out and addresses complaints on the forums which are not even directed to him.

Spyderco is one of the best. Kershaw has also proven to be quite good for me and on the two occassions that I've needed Ka-Bar to help me out they came through for me with some very valuable aid when they really didn't need to or have in writing that they would provide that kind of service. I just recently posted in the 'Good the Bad and the Ugly' forum about the outstanding support I recieved from Ka-Bar regarding a pocket clip I damaged.
