Which Pry bar for edc?

A real pry bar or a fancy cap lifter with a chisel grind on one end ?

Your best bet is probably the little ones from Countycomm.

I carry one of these Vaughan pry bars at work and it's great, the older Chrome ones were nicer but functionally the blue powder coated ones they make today are functionally just as good.

Want an honest answer, or a feel good answer?

Here's the honest answer:

You aren't going to use an EDC pry bar, so it doesn't matter which one you buy.

We buy toys like this to feel good. To distract ourselves from reality for a little while. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, because we all like to feel good. But once every 4 years when you open a paint can, you can use a wide screwdriver or the little gizmo they give you at the paint store. You'll never have an emergency pry job on the way home from Chic-Fil-A. "Thank goodness I had that 2" County Comm pry thing with me!"

The same holds true for EDC fire kits, water purifier straws and paracord bracelets. These are the grownup versions of binkies and blankies and pacifiers. They serve to distract, but that's about it.

I'm qualified to give an honest answer because I've spent 35 years buying and hoarding thousands of dollars worth of this kind of crap. I know what I'm talking about. You aren't going to use any of it. Its there to make you feel good.

So buy the one that makes you feel the best. You yourself said you wanted it to be "cool".

But just admit to yourself that you will never use it. Present company excluded, of course. You guys who use your EDC pry bars 20 times a day.

Thanks for your honest advice. And yeah, you’re probably right, most likely I will never use it. Just like the knives I collect.
Anyway, I guess it’s a toy, so I’m gonna buy me a fancy looking Titanium heat treated thingy with a interesting name just to play with, waiting for the Corona lockdown to pass.

Used to EDC a Boker Ti prybar and my wife EDC'd a Sharpwerks for years. Problem was that both broke when they had to actually, um, pry. Proper prying not gently nudging something open. Now I rely on the bottle opener on my SAK, very good mini pry bar for poking stuff, scraping stuff, minor prying, etc.

I don't have a good suggestion but having a prybar available just might prevent you from
breaking your knife when you need to pry something.

I tried carrying a couple different mini pry bars for several months, and on the rare (and I do mean rare) occasions when I wanted to use them I found that they were so small that they didn't offer much leverage or actual utility. They looked cool, but that was about it.

It's not as sexy, but I find a SAK with a flathead or a Leatherman much more useful.

I carry a Nite Ize "DoohicKey" tool on my keyring. Got it at a big box hardware store for about 5 bucks. I use it occasionally for odds and ends that I don't want to do with my knife blade. I don't remember ever needing a bigger pry bar on the fly. I do have a pry bar in my tool kit which I have found useful over the years, but that tool kit isn't an EDC thing.

I personally used a EDC prybar all the time when I was working, not so much now.

EDC items which could be mistaken for burglary tools do not promote cordial relations with law enforcement. This is obvious but easy to overlook if you haven't had the experience.
I don't think we're talking about crowbar's. EDC prybars are generally smaller than 4" not really useful for breaking and entering.

I like skulls and one of my favorite knives is a chaves 229. so I came across a good deal on a bronzed tianium Chavez skeleton key prybar. Definitely has that "cool" factor.

I took one like the blue one pictured above cut it to the length I wanted and rounded the end with a dremel drilled in lanyard hole with a tapcon bit . I use it often at work not so much outside of work

I was carrying one of the little " bonus thumb bar " that came as an extra with the 2pc Vaughan/Dasco sets at Walmart before all the real tools got replaced with worthless Hart brand imported crap, and I found that I just never used it. ( Walmart was the only place it was included as far as I know )
At work the small pry bar gets used often, but off work I didn't find myself needing the tiny keychain sized bar I had in my pocket organizer.
I have taken it out months ago and never missed it.

I bought a $1 chrome steel Chinese one off ebay a year or two ago (same shape & size as County Comm's). I put paracord on it and keep it in my pocket organizer. I've used it about a dozen times...enough to justify having it in my pouch. If I need to do anything dirty or rough and I don't want to mess-up my SAK, I use it.

I carry Lynch pry tool. It's held up well, pocket clip is nice. I have a couple pocket tools, but this is my go to most of the time. I think it's because the pry bevel is fairly steep and comes to a fine point, and easy to carry due to size and clip. I can open boxes with the tip - saves the hassle of cleaning tape off my knife.

I have a few different sizes of the CountyComm Widgy pry bars.

I edc’d the 4 inch one but recently bought a 4 inch Ti Fulcro Leva tool from CountyComm that I have been carrying in its place.

I like it quite a bit.
