Which Randall?

I just came across a couple of Randall knives that my buddy has. Only one is for sale.

One is a Camp and Trail model #5, 5" and the other is a Military Model #1, 6".

The use would be for camp, trail hiking, and possibly as a survival knife (should that become necessary).

The price is ~$350.

Any suggestions as to which one... ? I'm having a hard time deciding (I'd really like to get both).

Thanks

Jake,

RMK's 'Marine/Navy Aircrew Survival Knife' is based on a Randall Model #5-5 platform...having had both of the models that you described, all things being equal, I'd take the Model #5-5 as a user...

But, should you ever decide to sell, the Model #1-6 will probably bring in 50% more than the Model #5-5...so, it's a tough choice...

Buy the #1, safe queen it, and get a Ranger or Ontario for the field.

You won't be sorry.

The #5 will undoubtedly be a better knife for your use but I love the #1 and have since the mid 60's. Just never had the money and the opportunity at the same time:( .

Both are fine. Handle them and see which one feels the best. I have a carried and used a Randall 15 extensively for over 30 years. You wont regret it
