I couldn't figure how to search the forum and I'm sure this has been asked before many times but I want to buy a RAT-3 Type Knife and I'm not sure what manufacturer I should get. I want a blade 4" or less and I'm leaning toward the Rat Cutlery RC-3

I want it for EDC/Hunting/Survival/Hiking knife. I like to carry horizontal on my belt too so the sheath is important to me. I don't like Velcro on my sheaths either! one of the sheaths I saw had a Velcro loop attachment for the handle.

I don't know about you guys but I've had Velcro before on some sheaths and they got trashed pretty fast. I like to carry lighter knives and would prefer the smaller blade for this purpose plus make it easier for cleaning game. I generally carry a Bark River for this purpose but I would like to get away from carrying lots of knives.

So what do you think..for less than $120

Rat Cutlery. Better finish, better knives, better company.

I have an RC-4 and love the knife and sheath.

Get the RC-3. The MOLLE back, Tek-Lok, and the MOLLE locks are all optional. Even if you get all of them, it should come in pretty close to your price point, and give you more sheath attachment options than anything else on the market.

The RC-3 MOLLE back has the velcro loop. I use the MOLLE back, but I found the loop useless and just cut it off with scissors.

Thanks, I'm still not sure if I should do that RC-3 or RC-4, does anyone have both of them...how is the balance on them? I think I might remove the velcro and add a button or another type of clip to it. I need to find a store locally maybe that carries them so I can check them out. I've held the RC-3 but it was a year ago and now I can't remember...lol

They are both excellent knive's, which ever you decide, I'm sure you will love it.

For EDC I would go with the RC 3. I have both and EDC the RC 3. The RC 4 is an awesome woods knife, but a little big for EDC to me.

I just got my RAT3 in D2, and it's a great knife. I've carried a RAT7 in D2 for a long time, and while it's a great camp knife, it's too big to carry on my person. The RAT3 is a very well made knife, and small enough to easily carry even in my pocket. It comes with several different sheath options, and fits very snugly in it's sheath.

I know there's a lot of controversy about Ontario Knives vs. RAT Cutlery, and while I don't want to support an oppressive business, I also think that there are two sides to every story, and I don't feel that it's a bad thing to buy from Ontario. I also really like D2, which is the main reason I bought the RAT3.

If I were to choose one knife for using every day, it would probably be the RC-4 in D2. Since that's not an option, the RAT3 will do me very nicely.

I would recommend the RC-3. It is not necessary to use the velcro or even the nylon back. It is a well designed sheath and is very versitile

RC3 is better for daily carry.

The RAT-3 is very similar, but the handle is slightly shorter and the f&f is not as good. If you want D2--you have to go that way, but the RC3 1095 is excellent stuff.
