Here's a good one for you owner's of the baddest knives out there. Remember this is all hypothetical so just have fun with it. You're sitting in your house watchin the tube and a top secret government organization comes to your door, they've been monitoring the forums and are aware of your survival skills. They are doing an experiment on survival. You will be flown by chopper to the middle of a vast and unknown wilderness you'll be supplied with a set of BDU's and you may take a knife of your choosing. WHICH KNIFE DO YOU GRAB?????

I'd take too long trying to decide and they'd leave in frustration. :o

Old School Rat Weiler and Old School Rat Hunter. Perfect combo from Swamp Rat, IMHO...

My camp tramp all the way...and try to sneak my Rat Rc3 along for the ride

One knife from the Swamp?

It has to be my old school Ratweiler. When I hike I like to go light so I go with my Camp Tramp or Battle Rat depending on how much chopping/batoning I expect. :p

DFLE with HC in a custom Piggyback sheath. I love the big/small knife combo and the new HC is the perfect companion knife I have been searching for. If weight is a real issue like I have to cover a lot of ground on foot I would take the SS4.

I would grab the Ratweiler but since I have those great hypothetical survival skills I would have this one under my shirt for backup.

My first thought was "Ratweiler!". But after thinking about it, I'd probably go with my Battle Rat. Or maybe my Ratweiler. :o

I had a hard time deciding between my Ratweiler, Battle Rat and Camp Tramp but in the end I picked the Ratweiler since the only other gear I had in this test was BDU's so weight wasn't an issue.

This got me thinking about my current "stay out for awhile" hiking set last night and it looks like this:
  1. Leatherman Squirt S4 (lives on my keyring along with a Fenix LoD + Atwood titanium whistle + Suunto micro compass so I always have these with me)
  2. Leatherman Skeletool CX (pliers, serrated blade and bit driver)
  3. Small knife *(detail work)
  4. Big knife **(chopper)
  5. Silky Pocketboy 170 (saw)

Mix and match the following for a nice two knife combo which I prefer to keeping one mid-sized knife...

* Small knife (pick one)
  • Busse AD
  • Scrap Yard SS4
  • Busse MS
** Big knife, pick one
  • Busse FSH
  • Swamp Rat Battle Rat
  • Scrap Yard Dogfather

The really big choppers like the Rat Mastiff and Battle Mistress are reserved for camping.

Just got a Mini uncle mojo.
Wow! Its huge.Much bigger than I thought so right now it would be it.
Maybe the CRK Mountaineer as it does have a ton of stuff in the handle.

Those camping blades are too heavy for hiking, but great for defending against rogue rhinos!
