If you were to purchase your first RAT Cutlery knife which one would you get and why? (Size, Weight, Color and Sheaths)

Izula- it will give you a taste of Rat quality without breaking the bank. Plus, it is just a handy little cutter.

RC-4 Excellent weight , balance and versatility and a great Kydex sheath.
This one right here:

What do you want to do with it?

For an outdoors knife, the RC4 is probably the most useful. OD and orange -- easy to see if you drop it.

For EDC the Izula is nice. If you use a knife a lot, the RC3 would be the ticket since it has actual scales. Pick the color you like. Me, I'd take a black Izula or an RC3 MIL.

I like the RC-4 because it fits my hand nicely and it seems to be a good size for general outdoor/camp use. I prefer the OD/orange combo. I always order the full kit/sheath so I have numerous carry options.

As far as the knife itself goes the rc-3 mil has a pointed/sharpened glass breaker pommel as compared to the modified (rounded) pommel on the "modified" rc-3, or the regular pointed pommel (not sharpened) of the original rc-3. The rc-3 mil only comes in tan canvas micarta handles while the other two versions of the rc-3 have an option of black linen micarta handles or orange g-10 along with the canvas. The rc-3 mil is also individually numbered. The rc-3 mil comes with a molle back; the other two do not. I think that covers it

RC4 hands down. The fine sheath system as well as the excellent size and weight make it a great EDC blade.

RC4 with the molle back and the boot clip. Its the only one I have but I think its thebest all around blade. Color is up to you, I went with the OD and blaze though.

RC4 seems to be like in the middle of all the RC knives, big enough to get the job done, not too small. Its a very good first Rat. Mine is :)

I have the RC-3MIL. I tried the boot clip IWB. My opinion is that it rides up too high on my waist. If there was any way that the clip could be attached to the top two holes, then it migth work better. I carry it using the cord mythod. Using the paracord, thread it threw the two top loops in the shealth and then tie the ends of the paracord together so that you have a loop. But the shealth/knife IWB and thread your belt through the loop. Adjust the lenght of the loop so you are comfortable with it. It sits low enough, so it is comfortable, yet you can get to it when you need it.

4, no question if you want an all around camp, butcher, skinner, survival knife. I use a Kershaw Scallion for EDC and if I need something bigger I use my hatchet or portable saw.
