I currently have a Super Tinker which I carry around with me on occassion. I usually find uses for my Super Tinker around the house. I am wanting something with more tools and like the idea of the Swiss Champ. I think that this knife offers a lot esepcially for the price. I mainly use the screw drivers on my Super Tinker. Can anyone tell me their thoughts on the Swiss Champ? How well made is this tool? How hard is it for one to carry in a jeans pocket? Thanks for any advice!

I think the Swiss Champ is a little large for pocket carry, but its subjective. Tools are well-made.

Consider going to sosakonline.com and use the SAK selector (upper left corner of the page), where you imput the tools you want and it gives you a comparison of the SAKs which have those tools. See also smartknives.com for a good look at the various SAKs.

cheers!

I love the Swiss Champ. So many on this forum seem to be so minimalist I don't even know why they carry multitools to begin with. I've carried the swiss champ for a long time, and its an awesome tool.

My other recommendation is the army champion, because it has everything on the Swisschamp minus the pliers. Its also 15-20 dollars cheaper usually. Check it out on Amazon.

Maybe it's too big for loose pocket carry, but it is easily managed in a belt sheath. If that doesn't work for you, it is not bad in the pocket if suspended by dummy cord, my current method for almost all multitools that have no clip.

For many years, a Swisschamp was my only pocket knife. From this experience I believe it offers an ideal package of size and utility. Although these days I have several multitools of different design and manufacture, and like them all, if rationed to one only, mine would be a Swisschamp, and I don't even have to think about it.

I find no reason to compromise with a Champion Plus. The practical difference in size is slight, and the pliers are so often useful. That said, when they went on sale a while ago I picked up a couple for gifts :D .

I would consider a pliers-based multitool such as the Victorinox Spirit as a good alternative to that bulky SAK.

There is a lot to be said for the Spirit, but my personal needs have been better met , overall, by a Swisschamp. In an industrial or survival situation, I would probably go with the Spirit because it is tougher and provides good pliers, but neither would be my top choice under heavy use conditions.

Mine is an urban life with an occupation that only sometimes requires knife or tool use. Even so, I keep one (or more, believe it or not :D ) on me at all times for on the spot fixes, minor maintenance chores, grooming, occasional emergencies, and as a finger toy for down times. My Swisschamp has served well in all those roles, providing great versatility in a manageable form. Aside from the all-important fish scaler and package hook :D , you get tweezers, a toothpick, ballpoint pen, better than Spirit scissors and a straight pin. This is living large :) .

I think the swiss champ carries well in jeans and khakis. I like the idea of suspending it from a dummy cord on the belt. Victorinox does make a belt clip with an attachment for SAKs. Suspends it above the bottom of your pocket. I've tried this with my swiss champ and it works well. By the way I have two swiss champs: A standard red one that I've had for over ten years and a recent find a hunter green one! What is nice about most SAKs is that most people don't object to them. They are seen as handy tools. Get one I don't think you'll regret it

I carried a Swisschamp for years. I think it's an excellent choice and if you use the screwdrivers a lot I think you'll like the in-line phillips on the Swisschamp. Lately however, I've been carrying the Champion and a Skeletool. That way I have better pliers, a locking knife and torx bits. (I switched the bits that came with the Skeletool.) This may be the perfect combination for me. You can buy both the Champion and the Skeletool CX for under $100 or the regular Skeletool and Champion for about $75.
