Finally cutting back on the EDC rotation. Leatherman Wave, Case Trapper and Lone Wolf T2 maybe too much. Pliers are handy at times but a can opener and saw are mandatory as is a good sharp blade. Screwdrivers wan:thumbup:ted but no cork screw. Good large blade for survival bushcraft a good thing. So which one do i need to replace all that fine iron i EDC? Any suggestiins and guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Victorinox Farmer is slim, tough and easy to carry. It lacks pliers, though. Add a Leatherman PS4 and you'll have your pliers and a few tools more.

i'm really digging the fieldmaster. it has all the blades you would need to cut anything (2 plain edge, saw, scissors) and a phillips. and it fits well in a jean pocket to boot.

Who makes what? Im not new to knives but have no idea which is Victorinox and which is Wenger. Also i have read posts where folks are taking parts off one and changing them out on another. Is that hard or could you custom build your own as long as its same brand and space is compatable? Thanks for all the suggestions.

Who makes what?

Everyone who has replied so far has recommended a Victorinox knife. If buying new, a Vic and a Wenger should be of the same high quality. Even so, Victorinox seems to be WAY more popular with the members here.

As for the difficulty of customizing, I can't help. :(

Here is a custom SAK made by defaultuser. It has everything I need and is very well done.

Victorinox Farmer and Hiker are both good SAKs, you could also look at the larger Trekker/Soldier.

Another option would be the Wenger Classic 15.
