Which Sharpmaker model?

I am going to purchase a Sharpmaker, and would like your opinion on the model to buy. I see the 204MF which is advertised as Spyderco's "top of the line" model. This one has the ceramic hones.
The other is the regular with the fine and medium stones. Which should I buy for sharpening my everday tacticals? Thanks.

You really can't go wrong with 204MF. There are (or will be) diamond hones available so you can "re-edge" a blade if you ding one up fairly badly. The first "experimental" run on these diamond hones sold like hot-cakes. I called Spyderco 2 days after they were released and they were sold out. The medium rods will wear out in 5 years of frequent use, according to Sal. I doubt most people need to use the medium ceramic "frequently" if you keep the blade well honed. The fine or white "rods" last indefinately. But they do need to be cleaned frequently, at LEAST after every knife. Probably the fastest way to do it is with a "rust-eraser" (see AG Russell if you can't get one at the hardware store). The "easiest" way to clean them is to stick them in the dishwasher, but I wouldn't do that on "Spaghetti night!":)

Since you seem to be in an ordering mood, go ahead and get a set of the ultra fine stones from Spyderco. I make no claim to be a master at sharpening, but these are sweet.

I agree, the ultrafine stones put a pretty wicked edge on knives and they're not too pricey.
