which sheath for Mil Spec. overrun HG55

should be the ganza custom. the combat grade and le were regular site offerings.

i wouldn't have a preference between those two makers. both make fine sheaths.

I'm a US Border Patrol Agent. We travel through some of the roughest thorn ridden country on earth in S. Texas. There is a plant called cat-claw acacia that makes a mess of anything it touches including skin. I was looking for a tough as nails sheath a while back for my busse and ended up with a drop leg Kydex from Okuden (http://www.okuden.net/). I've put that sheath through the wringers lately and man, that is one tough sheath. Everyone who see's it remarks on how well made it is. Do yourself a favor, get one from him. They'll outlast the toughest conditions you can throw at it..PICs shortly :)

i think Eric at mashed cat, has a over-run on site,, give him a call.. or email.. fine stuff

Some thing to think about.

Decide in advance just what you want the Sheath to do.

Look at them all.

Do you have a preference in how one looks?

For me it depends on the job of the knife.

I do not have the knife in question, but I do have several user knives with Kydex sheaths.

Look at the pricing and see what fits you.

Ok, My Preferences.

For edc, ease of use and general looks I like the Buy Brown Sheaths, I have over time bought 50+ of These, think Speedos for knives.

Buy Brown sheaths tend to be smaller compared to the over all size of the knife.

For Bomb Proof retention, Strength, and Durability I like Okuden, nothing else really even comes close, I have a few of these. Read this again, the Very Best Retention, The Strongest, and the most Durable, this is the one to go with lost on a Deserted Island.

If you intend to bet you life on a sheath this is the one for you.

Not as easy to use compared to the Buy Brown, I do not like the look so well, But, the end all, be all, end of the world Sheath.

Yes I have strong Feelings about sheaths.

Mashed cat I have one of and it works well enough, just not my first choice, but it was ready right then, No Waiting and some times that is important.

Onscene Tactical, I prolly have 6 of, very functional, good retention, once again, just not my first choice.

I do have kydex sheaths made by other people, but the ones I mentioned are the ones I tend to go with.

There are a lot of people making Sheaths, I have done a little of it my self.

Look around and see what you like.

I tend to evaluate the sheaths more on the carry attachment and how you want to wear the knife....the more thought given to this...the better the sheath works. Jeff at Rainwalker Creations has made the best attachment fixings that I have seen so far. Some other features are good though...the Mashed Cat flared hole in the base is a good way to ensure grit in the sheath can be washed out...useful if you have a satin finish or a D/C finish...and want to keep the knife looking good. Users can still be kept looking good if you get the right finish you can restore....

in kydex, i like good retention and ease of draw (preferably something i can push off with the thumb to loosen and then draw easily after). for those reasons, i like mashed cat the best. okuden is also good and similar in design. i like the simpler construction of buy brown as well, but i find the draw not as easy. gravelface makes a great simple sheath too, with an easier draw. haven't owned any steelnut sheaths but i've heard only good things.
