it sounded like there's a newer sheath design that doesn't dull the knife... However, it also sounded like you could tell the old sheaths from the new in that the new ones only let the knives go in in one orientation. However, the original poster in that thread included pictures, and his sheath appears to be one of the newer ones.

So, is there a way to tell which sheaths have the issue, other than waiting to see if they dull the knife?

Nope. They look the same, feel the same, and are coming with new BKTs. That's about it. Dealer stock typically revolves, slowly, so, the GRN sheaths will be around for some time to come. All new BKT's (factory new) have the IJM sheaths, the only way I can tell, is to look on the invoice sheet. We typically don't get those through the dealer network.

Some of the dealers might be able to check their invoice, if you call and ask, but probably not.

In the end, you get what you get, but you can call and order sheath from Kabar. You will have to pay for it. Just how it is.

A sheath is supposed to protect you from the knife, and keep it with you , and in respect, even the GRN sheaths do fine.
