I've been doing a lot of research on which knives would suit my needs (size,use,etc..), I've so far settled on the spyderco paramilitary black, emerson horseman black, benchmade stryker 913-D2 black...which should be my first purchase?? Any comments of these would be very welcome..

i really liked my horseman! i'd suggest that one first and then the stryker mostly because i love the design and it's next on my "to buy" list

I have both the Horseman and the Military (digi). I like them both. I would suggest you go handle them both and see which one grabs you the most. Both are nice knives. I haven't really gotten around to carrying the Horseman yet but the Military I have and really like it. I use mine wherever I can and sometimes that's in the kitchen where it's superb.

I love my 913. The AO action is truly unique, robust, and far faster than any of my 10+ Kershaws. The stop pin is able to be rotated to accommodate wear on the liner lock. Both liners are titanium. The handles are finished really well, ergos are near perfect for me, clip is great, blade grind is perfect for EDC. Thinking about the 913 just caused me to put my Sebenza away and put the 913 in my pocket for the night!

Also, I have a Para in CPM-D2 that is a fantastic knife as well. The CPM-D2 one opens with a smoothness that rivals an axis lock! My S30V Para has a ball-detent, but my CPM-D2 Para has a notch cut in the tang of the blade that allows the entire compression lock to act like a ball detent. I don't know if this was a style change with all Paras or just the CMP-D2 version, but it made that knife amazingly smooth!

I have never handled the Horesman. Between the two that I own, I'd say get the 913 if you are into AO's, but get the Para if like smaller blades and full flat grinds.

I own the Horseman and i certainly don't use it as an EDC. It is, however, a lovely knife. Great with the wave feature, and i love the sound it makes when i deploy it, but i really only see it as a tactical knife, nothing more

I would usually recommend any Spyderco. However I never really got attached to the compression lock.
I’ve never handled a horseman so cant really speak on it.

I do really like the 913, I have one in my pocket right now.

The G10 feels good, the blade shape is wonderful.

Its light, the liner lock its almost perfect.

And it’s the only AO knife that I really like enough to carry on a regular basis. Something about its size, shape, ergonomics and texturing make it as easy to close (one draw back to many AO knives) as many if not most of my manual knives.

I’ve only had it for a few weeks but its quickly becoming one of my favorite knives.

Being not a fan of AOs (especialy BM's system), I'd go with the Para. I think it's the better of your choices.

I've heard nothing but good things about the paramilitary. Looks functional and ergonomic. My first worry would be about the tip, but after reading around some, it seems like they hold up pretty well.
