Which should I choose?

I am going to order a Sharpmaker with ultra fine stone, and I would also like to get either a Ka-Bar Dozier folder PE, Kershaw Storm I PE, or a Cuda EDC PE. Which would you choose? Which do you think is the best value and why? I want a small to medium sized edc folder that is easy to open with one hand, has a very strong lockup, and a good blade, although high grade steel is not an issue because I like to sharpen knives (but it has to be tough). Could someone please help me out, because I can't afford them all. Also, which blade design do you like best on the Dozier folders? Thanks for any help I may recieve.

Come on people, I need help! I want to order as soon as possible. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Alright, here's my two cent's worth....

I have never owned or even handled a Kershaw Storm, so I can't give you any advice on that one.

BUT, I have owned both the CUDA EDC and the FRN Kabar-Dozier (mine was the spear-point).
The CUDA EDC is a nice frame-lock, but it was just too small for my hand.
My fingers felt cramped.
And the blade was not pointy enough for my taste.

So, between the EDC and the Kabar-Dozier, I vote for the Kabar-Dozier.

I know you did not ask for other recommendations, but....have you checked out the Spyderco Delica 4? Especially with the Emerson Wave?

Good luck,
Allen.

BJE, I have the Storm II and have had a couple of the Ka-Bar Doziers. They are all so much alike, whichever one you get is cool. The big difference is thumbstud or opening hole.

I like the Storm a lot, but it is an exotic design, very eye-catching, pretty heavy, too, being all steel. If you like the looks, go for it. It is one solid working knife.

If you want a lightweight, unobtrusive EDC, go for the Ka-Bar. Excellent design, good tough AUS-8 steel, holds a good edge and sharpens back up easily.

The CUDA EDC is a fine design. I actually have a DDR custom original. It is a small knife, and feels smaller than the Ka-Bar because of the handle shape.

I've got an Endura Wave. With that spearpoint blade, it is very much like a Ka-Bar Dozier that opens up by taking it out of your pocket. :)

whatever you decide on is fine;even though you will second guess yourself later (if you are like most of us).the knives i use the most are comfy in the hand, and cheap.

BJE-- Love your persistance. The only brand of knife you mentioned that I own is Kershaw. I have one of their small/medium assisted-opening linerlocks. Nothing special but it does have terrifically smooth action and makes a great 'klikt' sound when opened. It also does not have what I would call hard steel, not like Spyderco or SOG. More of modern utility knife raised to glory. Frankly though, I wouldn't recommend Kershaw without reservation, especially from what you've laid out. You might want to take a chance and get a less commercially oriented brand. Best of luck and let us know.

What are your reservations about Kershaw? Why would someone take a chance on anything they are going to spend money on?

99.9% of Kershaw owners are convinced of the brand quality and appreciate the "commercially oriented" prices. Especially considering that Kershaw offers the highest level of Customer Service on the market. In my opinion, and the opinion of many others, there is NO risk in buying a Kershaw.

My main reservation with the Kershaw I own, especially in light of BJE's request for a "very strong lockup", is that the blade does have some play to it. Sure, you can tighten it but then you slow the opening speed. Also, comparitively speaking as linerlocks go, the lock is good but not outstanding for strength. Just my observation, that's all.

Thanks for all of the help so far, but I really want more opinions, so bring on the advice.

I don't need the specs of each or anything like that, but since I don't have any locally, I can't feel them so I have to rely on what other people think about these knives, so if you could tell me which one you like best and why, I would be most grateful.

The Storm is simply outstanding. Sharp blade, good tough steel, solid lock, great feel, superb price. My girlfriend has one, she simply loves it, and the only reason I don't own one, because I personally don't like trailing points and I'm waiting for the Junkyard Dog. :D

The EDC is also a good knife, but it's a bit small for my hands and AUS-8 steel is not really my favourite. If you can order an older, 154CM version, and your hands aren't too big, go for it!

The Ka-Bar Dozier is quite good for the money also, but from the three, I would by the Storm. Anyway, have you considered the Benchmade Monocrome?

All of them are good knives. My only caution about the EDC is that it may not fit a person with large hands. The Kabar is one of my favorite and I carry it often. One the best values in the knife market.

I vote for Camillus EDC
In this thread I posted in hand pics of EDC so you can look.
One of it's main advantage is quite a big blade (especially when you consider how small is the knife overally)
It is small (=comfortable to carry :)), but nothing to worry about - if you want really comfortable grip, get something like Spyderco Military :) (or Byrd Cara Cara if you want to stay cheap) otherwise it is always compromise

After the advice I have recieved, I think I have narrowed it down to either the Storm I or the EDC. The Byrd Cara Cara is another option. Huugh or anyone else that has an answer, how does the size of the EDC compare to a Vapor I? Thanks for the advice, and please keep telling me what you think.

Hello everyone,

I'm the girlfriend. :) Yep, Redguy is right, I _love_ that knife. Comfortable, thin, beautiful, it has emery-paper on its handle (I love it too, :D), easy to carry and use, and, it is beautiful.

I will have the tanto-Storm too, 'cos I like these knives, really. And the third one will be the Kershaw ZT 0400.

Because I want it. ;)

Redguy, you are a lucky guy to have a girlfriend that likes knives.

Well, it is very wide range (size) from CUDA EDC to Cara Cara is about the size of Spyderco Police, see pics:
