Which size Ritter Grip

A couple days ago you kind folks point ted me to where to order a Ritter Grip. After no benchmade luck at the gun and knife show yesterday I'm looking to take the leap and dive in.

My question is which size do you prefer/recomend? I already have 2 mini grips and like them very much, but I also have and love my 710 and other full size benchmades. So I'm torn between the full size and mini, please give me your opinions and guidance.

I find the smaller mini more useful that the full size and a lot more pocket-able.

I am really biased. The mini grip has been my favorite knife for years... I have big hands but find the mini is very comfortable, and realistically it is
big enough for just about anything most people use a knife for.

I like that the mini can be clipped into the watch/coin pocket of my blue jeans. The full size can't. Well it can, but not with the same feeling of security.
I tried a full size Grip, and just didn't care for it. There was nothing wrong with it, but it just didn't have the same feel as the Mini.
That said, there are a lot of people who feel just the opposite, and don't care for the Mini.

We can give you our opinions all day long, but if you already have Mini Grips and like them, the only way to truly know is to try a full size and see if you like it.
Worst case scenario, you can always sell it or maybe even trade it for a Mini if you don't like it.

Well, it depends on what you need and what your uses are. You have to make that call: The Large is great and it has a devoted following but in that size class, I just prefer many other models over it.

I'm a very big mini Grip fan. It's as good an EDC knife as any regardless of price, brand or whatever. Ive had dozens and dozens of Benchmades, all of them fancier and pricier, but I go back to the mini as my number one option. To be honest, I prefer the standard blade style, go figure.

You can try out the large and the Ritter blade in one swoop, or else you will always be curious.

Thank you for all the info gentlemen. The mini has ben quite useful to me and quite comfortable, that being said I did edc my 710 for some time and loved it.

As for the watch pocket that is a good and valid point that I had never thought of, however I am left handed so it won't apply to me, but if I give a knife as a gift it might.

And for only a $10 price difference I think I'm leaning towards the larger. I can always get a smaller later if I decide the full size is too big.

That being said I'll keep the question open a bit and see what other opinions I get before I order.

The 710 is a very popular knife, but it is totally different compared to a full size Griptilian. The Griptilian is fatter in the handle, and the handle is also deeper.
The 710 is long and slender, so while they are both bigger knives, they will have a totally different feel both in hand, and in pocket

The only issue that I have with the full sized Griptilian is that it has an awful and very plasticky feel and sound when opening and closing. It feels more like a $20 knife than a $100+ knife. The mini feels much more solid and more in line with its price point. I currently have two mini grips, both hollow ground one blue handle and one black, and two large grips, one black handled hollow grind and a Ritter S30V with Allen Putnam scales on it and I will tell you that the difference that the G10 aftermarket scales makes is massive. It completely transforms the knife and along with adding some heft to it you also don't have that horrible plastic sounding clack when the knife opens and closes. it is however expensive to buy a full sized grip and add $80 worth of g10 scales on it and that opens up lots of other knives in that $180 to $200 price range. If I were to give you a suggestion I would try to find some place local to put your hands on one before buying and being disappointed. Either that or either order the aftermarket scales along with the Ritter full size, or skip the Ritter and buy a G10 Grip.

I am partial to the Mini. I am excited about the new grey/blue G-10 Mini Grip w/ upgraded steel.

After using both, I prefer the mini -- it handles pretty much all EDC tasks, and is certainly more people friendly.

My preference is for the mini. It just feels more substantial, albeit smaller.

Thank you all for all of the input. I decided to go with the larger size and see how I like it. I can always order another in mini if it doesn't fit me.

Unfortunately in the meen time I have fallen in love with the Wilkins stone washed titanium scales. I'm trying to rationalize them with my bank account....

For anyone who cares...
I did go with the full sized Ritter grip. The size though on the larger side wasn't bad, and the feel wasn't either. I only had it a week before the Wilkins titanium scales arrived. Wow what a difference!!! They did add a bit of weight but it feels like a completely different knife.

As a quick aside the scales were top notch the shipping was super fast, customer service was outstanding. Kevin is an amazing craftsman, and a wonderful buisness man.

I will try to get pics up tomorrow.

Nice. I'd like to see the pics. BTW, how much extra weight do you estimate the Ti scales add? Thx.

I've always favoured medium sized, the 551 variants are always the choice over the mini's.

Definitely the Mini Ritter. Unless you were to get the full size and get custom grips. As you know, the mini's are full steel lined and the full size has very partial liners and it feels like it's from fisher-price. The handle feels cheap and does not inspire confidence. The new 20CV Grips are awesome though. The G-10 scales are phenomenal, on par with all the Kevin Wilkins scales I own. That is also a very good option :-)

Congrats on your choice, I have the Big Ritter myself, I like it as is. Didn't care for the regular large BM though. May pick up a mini Ritter.....really wish they had a med size available. Mentioned in another thread....Great knives no matter what the size.
