Hello,

I have been looking at buying a SOG folder and could use some help.
I am leaning toward a Big Tanto style blade with a axis lock.
I will be adding it to a collection so potential value increase and avalibility are things I consider.
I also would like to use it as a EDC for mostly self defense.

What do you all recommend and why?

Thank You

I had the Vulcan. All I'm going to say is... it was a fun and good-looking knife. It was my introduction to the Arc lock; smooth, easy to use. I ended up parting with it because the recurve blade wasn't the best choice for what I use knives for.

Honestly, anything on this page is a solid choice:

Unfortunately, production knives aren't likely to increase in value any time soon, especially if you EDC them.

Thats the hardest spec you listed, since nopyo is correct on both counts:

Most of the collector interest is around the fixed blades.
A few of the earlier versions of folders have gotten some interest, like the previous versions of the Tomcat.

Some possible candidates that could increase in value and be collectible are:

1. The Tomcat 3.0 with Carbon Fiber handles - Limited run and now VERY hard to find.
2. Arcitech Damascus
3. Arcitech
4. Tomcat 3.0 LTD Carbon Blade
5. SOG Fatcat, TiNi Blade
6. Tomcat 3 - When you have the third version of a pretty popular model, you may eventually have some collector interest.

My reasoning is that all of those are at the higher end of SOGs price range so less will be made and sold and therefore be harder to find in the future. They are all very attractive and at the top end of SOG's f&f.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Has anyone had any experiance with a all black Vulcan and how the black blade holds up? I'm leaning toward a Vulcan Tanto.
I have a older Tomcat and although it's solid it is kind of heavy and no pocket clip.
