Which Spyderco and why?

I have several EDC folders from the likes of Kershaw, Cold Steel, and a couple of others. Looking to add to the quiver. Normal use of cutting cardboard, peeling apples for my daughter, wood/branches, potential self defense if needed, anything else I can throw at it.

A flipper or Assisted Open will be the choice. * Awesome feedback so far. If I don't want a flipper, which may be recommended?*

I have 6-7 fixed blades so it doesn't need to fill the roles they do.

Spyyderco or ZT happen to be where I'm leaning. It made sense to come to this forum and see what your thoughts are!

Fire away!

Was in your shoes last week, much the same uses (minus apples) and ended up grabbing a Paramilitary 2. Still waiting on arrival but it checked all the boxes for me, including trying another Spyderco after 20+ years without one.

Most often a Stretch will fill my pocket for things of this nature. However, if your looking for a flipper or an assisted opener, the Domino and Dice are 2 gorgeous flippers! The Southard and the Positron are both nice flippers as well! As far as ZT goes, I have the 0350TS and the 0770CF, both are assisted flippers and great knives! Good luck in your search, and be sure to post some pics!

For flippers I will go for ZT, but for EDC I will lean toward a PM2
, a Delica or a Slytz design, techno or Bowie

Spyderco Stretch. Hap40 if you can find it. I think the Stretch is the most ergonomic Spyderco in their lineup. The Hap40 holds its edge for quite a long time and is very easy to return hair splitting sharpness. Spyderco also has the Stretch in ZDP189 with the tan g10. I have the older carbon fiber Stretch in ZDP189. While it holds an edge forever, it is tough to sharpen. I like the PM2 just as well, however.

Thanks! And if not a flipper or assisted open?

Well if you don't want a flipper my personal favorite is the manix 2. But most people will say the Delica is the best edc ever and I pretty much agree it can handle whatever task you have. I've never had any of the spyderco or zt flippers so can't comment on that.

I'll agree with AF........ if time!!
My Domino and my Southard are my 2 favorite Spydies!! Excellent flippers, super cool blade profiles, both feel great in hand and are flat out sexy!
Can't go wrong with either one!

Low: Tenacious or Delica (or Dragonfly2 if you like smaller knives). All great knives for well under $100.

Middle: Paramilitary2 or Manix2. Made in the USA do everything knives that are true classics.
Middle: Gayle Bradley 2 or Sage1. Taichung master pieces for gentleman like EDC.

High: Slysz Bowie. Perfection isn't cheap! :)

Flipper? Mantra2, but I'd stick with the above middle options for your first Spyderco if possible.

I will toss out a decidedly unpopular suggestion. On a whim, I picked up a Battlestation last month - got a great price, and it looked intriguing. As it turns out, it is one of my favorite EDC blades. For 15+ years I have carried either an Endura or Delica - clearly a bit of a change for me.

I think the Battlestation is extremely ergonomic. My hands & fingers are beat up from years competing as a strongman, and doing crap like carrying 400lb Atlas stones and deadlifting cars. Combined with a disease I have that sometimes leaves me unable to feel my fingers, I appreciate the way the knife fits in my hand The blade is very nice as well, handling everything you mention with ease. Surprisingly, it slices well. It carries in my pocket nicely, feeling much smaller than it is.

It might be worth a hands on looksee.

+1 for the Stretch. The ergos truly lock the grip into your hand. Standard or hammer grip.
Did you pick anything yet?

I have heard a lot of good things about Slysz Bowie, which I don't own yet.
Personally, I would recommend Spydiechef by the same designer.

Really depends on budget, though I'd say that one of my favorite things about Spyderco is that every price range of theirs is always going to be highly functional and high quality.

For general EDC I LOVE both my PM2 and Sage 2.

For something more high end I'd say that my Slysz Bowie is the nicest knife I've ever owned.

I briefly had a Southard and while I ultimately sold it I was absolutely in love with almost everything about the knife (there were just a couple things that led me to sell it.

So yeah, I'd say PM2, something from the sage series or a Bowie if you can afford it.

Let us know what you get!

For edc it's hard to beat my UKPK. Nearly weightless and carries imperceptibly. Opens and closes effortlessly with one hand, and I think a lock would just get in the way. Well thought out design and very ergonomic.

At work I use a tiny thin benchmade 531.On the weekends it's paramilitary 2 all the way.I just ordered a M390 blue handled one from bento box...I am stoked.
I have a black plain edge para 2 and a camo para 2 plain edge...they disappear in the pocket and open wicked fast...and cut like nothing else I own.Every knife aficionado
should own one...they really are sweet.Soon I will have 3.....

I can't recommend the para 2 highly enough for edc.So much bang for the buck as well.

good luck!!

I've come to realize that I can rotate my Endura, Delica, Para1 or my UKPK and be completely content in carrying either knife!
I will add a LT3 to this rotation asap.
