Hi! This is my first post...

My wife said she's going to get me a Spyderco Delica II (Stainless handle) for Christmas. I think she may engrave it. Anyway, I need to decide on which blade type...serrated or plain. The knife will not be for any specific task, just multi-purpose and for self-defense. I doubt it will see heavy daily use.

Thanks,
TCW:)

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS....!!!!!

You will be happy with the DelicaII, it's a good quality knife..As far as blade types go my "Personal" prefrance(sp?) is plain edge..Alot easier to sharpen.

For non-specific/general purpose, nothing beats a plain edge. Easier to use, more versatile, easier to sharpen.

I have 2 fully serrated knives, and never use either one. I just don't think for everyday use they're very useful.

I own two Delica II's, a plain and a serrated. Unless you're planning on cutting a lot of boxes and rope with it, I would go with the plain edge. Another thing I notice is that in the closed position, the plain edge model's blade tip is safely down in the handle, while my serrated version's is just barely out of the way...in other words, it doesn't close as deeply. I've noticed a lot of the serrated versions are that way on the II.
