Which Spyderco keychain knife?

I'm looking for a folding keychain knife. I always keep my EDC knife scary sharp so I'm looking for a keychain knife I won't have to worry about so much. Let me give you guys an example. Let's say I just came home from work, check the mail and maybe there's a box with my name on it with maybe a new Spyderco knife I had just ordered.

Since I just got home, most likely my keys are within reach and I could easily cut open a box. I'm also thinking it would be more sheeple friendly. People would say "Awwwh, it's so cute!" instead of them giving me a concerned look on their face.

Anyways, I'm looking at something with a 2" blade and no more than 3" closed. My budget is around $70. Preferrably US made or something from Japan which I don't mind giving my money to. No China or Taiwan. Just my personal preference. So far I'm looking at a Balance, Ladybug and the Dragonfly. So what say you? Anything else I should be looking at?

I would wait for the Manbug. It should be out this year.

If waiting isn't in the cards, I would go with the Ladybug Salt. The yellow handle is sheeple-friendly, and the H1 steel means no worries about rust.

With the restrictions you impose, the Ladybug would be your best bet. There's nothing US made with a blade under 3" except for the Bi-Fold which is both restricted and more expensive than your limit.

Nothing wrong with the grasshopper family. There cheap as chips and you could fit all three on a keychain together. I dont like china made too but youve got to give credit where due. I too think the ladybug salt looks cool for a keychain knife so +1 for that.

If you looking for a small keychain knife that takes a scary edge, you might want to check out the Ladybug in FFG ZDP189.

Ladybug will work for you fine. I think Dragonfly is little too big for key-chain. Ladybugs come in few colors, two grinds and three different steels: VG10, H1, and ZDP 189. I would get with ZDP189 due to full flat grind, nice british racing green color and super steel. But if you have high humidity may be H1 will be better choice due to the best corrosion resistance. The cutest in my opinion is Tatoo with VG10 blade.
Good luck

I have the spyderco BUG on my key ring. It pretty much goes against all of your criteria, but I just thought i'd chime in a maybe someone would take a look at it if they are interested.

I like my keychain light, so the teeny tiny knife really doesnt cause an issue. As far as how functional it is, it is kind of like always having a small razor blade on you. For $7 its pretty cool, and hey its still a spyderco :)

What do you guys think of the Spyderco Balance all stainless construction? It's almost the same specs as the Ladybug.
Here's a link...http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=680
It's a very nice little knife, but wider (taller) than the Ladybug when closed, almost twice as heavy as the FRN Ladybugs, and a good bit more expensive. SS is also prone to scratching, so it's not the ideal material for a key chain knife's handle, IMHO.

I just like the looks of the Balance and it doesn't look so much like a knife with the SS scales when folded. I'm not worried about the scratches. I believe I have made my decision and I will buy both the Balance SS and Ladybug H1 and see how things turn out. Thanks guys.

I also have the Bug. Great knife for opening packages. Prefect for keychain. If I need something bigger I just grab a larger knife.

I would go with the H1 FS ladybug the edge retention and corrosion resistance are hard to beat.

A keychain without a serrated Ladybug is like a watch without a minute hand.

Thanks guys. I already ordered the SS Balance and a Caly3 CF ZDP-189. It should be here this week. :D
I'm going to see how the Balance works out. If it doesn't, I will order a Ladybug of Manbug.

Really, the corrosion resistance of H1 is not hard to beat, it is impossible. Being physically incapable of rusting means that on a scale of 1 to 10 for corrosion resistance, it would be an 11.

Just to throw it out there, the Dragonfly is pretty close to the criteria.
