Which Spyderco might I like?

I've owned a ton of knives - including some Spydercos. But I've never had one I really liked, which seems weird to me. I know they make great knives, so why can't I find one I like? So far, I've owned a dragonfly 2 (not comfortable/ small enough compared to Sanrenmu 605), Paramilitary 2 (awkward lock, handle too big), Delica 4 (too much handle, not enough blade), Native 3 (excellent ergonomics, but stiff action).

Just to be clear, if any of the above are your favorite knives, this is not criticism of your opinion.

What I want to ask is what Spyderco might be right for me? I like a smallish knife (Native is a good size fit), a choil, and an ambidextrous lock. Should I look at a Sage? Other suggestions?

If your only complaint of the Delica is not enough blade compared to handle size, I would suggest the Stretch. Still a lightweight, small EDC, but the blade is longer than Delica.

Many people have bought into that blade/handle ratio myth. Look at any fixed blade and you will see some have longer blades than handles and some longer handles than blades. There is a reason for this. On a 3 inch bladed knife, unless you are an extremely small person, a 3 inch handle will not fit your hand and give you the comfort and control of a longer handled knife. The Delica has a wonderful, for me, handle/blade ratio. I am not knocking what you said, but giving you another way to look at things. When I pick up a knife, the first thing I want to know is how will it fit in my hand?

If the Delica is not your cup of tea, as XX mentioned, I think you should take a long hard look at the Caly3. It is a wonderful knife, about the size of the Delica, and the blade/handle ratio is a bit more in the direction of your liking. Plus, it has a pronounced choil.

Sage 3.
I've converted a few folks with the ambi lock on this one.

I'd say any of the Sage series knives would be worth trying, especially the Sage 1. Stretch might be worth a try, the FRN/VG-10 one in particular, if you can still find one. The Caly 3 and 3.5 are well made knives but, if you consider the Native 3 too stiff, you might have the same complaint with them. Or, if you want something that combines a blade just .07" shorter than the Delica's with a handle just .3" longer than the Dragonfly's (and over .5" shorter than the Delica's) then you might want to look at the CF Chaparral.

I would say Sage 3 since it has an ambi lock, though I prefer the Sage 2 personally. Also, take a look at any of the Manix 2s, they will be bigger than the Sage but they feel great in the hand.

The Manix 2 also has an awkward lock mechanism if you think the PM2 lock is awkward. Get the Sage 1. Basic and well made. Easy to use and light. Good strength.

I like second the Sage 3 and Manix 2 the Manix will be on the larger side but still a viable option

My recommendation is to try the Caly 3 or CF Chaparral. If you want to go a little bigger, then a Sage might be what you're looking for.

Caly 3.5 or 3 has a lot of blade but not too much handle. Sage 1 is also a great choice, slightly bigger than the Native, smooth action, and very upscale. Chaparral for something a little smaller but not too small.

the new Native 5's have an incredibly smooth action especially the g10 models. Almost comparable to the PM2's in terms of "falling shut" -- at least the one's I own.

I'll have to say that my Native 5, while initially stiff, after breaking in has a smooth but strong lock. You might want to give that one a look. S35VN is also a solid steel.

Sage 3 if you want ambidextrous.
Or Caly 3 or 3.5.

But... your statistics show you may simply not like any of them.
