So my wife told me we could go and pick out a knife for my birthday....no definite set budget, probably can go a little over 200 if I want to.

I have a slight obsession with the spyderco farid k2, but I've been looking at the southerd and Gayle Bradley a lot lately. I can't decide! I only own one spyderco currently (ffg plain edge endura).
I want a slightly nicer large knife...most of my folders are inexpensive users like the endura, kershaws, Ontario rat 1, etc.

Help me out! Or suggest another spyderco/different brand altogether! I have a bunch of knives, the only requirements for this one is nicer materials (maybe titanium), must be at least 3 inches, and must be pocket carry/user friendly. Must have a clip and some form of one handed opening, not going for a traditional right now.

I have seriously considered the military.....my only issue is I hate black g10 and I don't like digicam. And I can't afford the titanium military.

I like benchmades but I've never owned one....I'll have to play with the custom build website and see what I come up with.

Bradley, PM2 sprint, manix 2 sprint, domino, dice. Lots of options. I didn't care for the Southard and the tip down only clip on the Military and K2 ruin those for me.

I went with the k2...

I looked at a bunch of others, pretty much everything else that's been mentioned on this thread. I played with them all, but the k2 just speaks to me....

This thing is pretty massive. But I love it so far....and it carries small.

And I can't just say I bought a new knife without at least 1 pic...

Take a look at the C101PBL2, the translucent blue Manix 2 with CTS-BD1 steel. It's a bit larger than your regulars, has a different blade steel to try, NOT black G-10, tough and lightweight, and the cost is well below your $200 mark.

imo no Spyderco collection is complete without a G10 Police...just my .02

I think the coolest new Spyderco on the market is the PITS (pie in the sky), a collaboration with British knifemaker Mike Read.

N690 Steel. Innovative slipjoint design. Titanium handles. Weighs in around 3 oz. Legal in the UK and certainly in almost all places in the U.S.

Robust. At the intersection of tradition, engineering, and technology.

To me, this is the Spyderco to get in 2015.

It's a winner. Mine is in the mail from Knifeworks.

British knifemaker Mike Read is a school-trained Marine Engineer and a part-time maker who specializes in practical, highly functional, non-locking folding knives. Drawing its name from Read’s forum name on British Bladeforums, the “Pie in the Sky” or “PITS” Folder is Spyderco’s expression of one of his most popular designs.

The broad, clip-point blade of the PITS Folder is flat ground from Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel—a martensitic chromium steel alloyed with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium. Its Trademark Round Hole™ clearly identifies the knife’s Spyderco pedigree and allows convenient one-handed opening with either hand. An integral guard at the base of the edge also helps prevent unintentional closure during use.

The PITS Folder’s solid titanium handle scales are skeletonized to reduce weight and increase the handle’s grip texture. They also form the foundation of the knife’s unique slipjoint mechanism. Long machined slots at the top of each handle scale create integral spring arms that are connected by a hardened pin. When the blade is open, this pin applies pressure on a curved ramp on the tang of the blade to stabilize it in the open position. This clever mechanism, together with the blade’s prominent lower guard, helps prevent accidental closure of the knife during use. The handle also includes a reversible deep-pocket wire clip that provides convenient left or right-side tip-up carry and makes both carry and one-handed operation completely ambidextrous.

One of the most robust and capable non-locking folders ever produced, the PITS Folder is a socially friendly, legally permissible knife that offers serious cutting performance.

Others that come to mind: Yojimbo 2 in S90V, Benchmade 940-1.

I liked that one a lot....its moved pretty high on priority list now that ive finally got the k2.

As for the southard and gayle bradley, I was surprised what I found: I actually don't like either one of them. I found both of them to be too fat/thick for their size. Purely personal preference, I like very thin knives with big blades. I also didnt like the gb liner lock...Im aware its designed to be more difficult to disengage for a reason, I just didnt like it.
A pimped southard with different, thinner handle material might be a whole other matter for me. But that was my first impression of those 2 knives. Fwiw.

You can never go wrong with a Gayle Bradley, however my suggestion for something different would be to take a look at the Vallotton.

Yojimbo2 S90V is absolutely my choice. Gray peel ply CF , S90V blade and the sweeeeet Compression Lock. All for $200. Awesome indeed.

I like the British Racing Car Green Stretch ZDP-189 blade steel. Large but light weight, it would a nice addition to your Endura.

My current EDC is a GB.

Military, sounds like it fits all your needs.

This, if you never had a Military in your hand you gotta try it. One of the must have Spydies imo, carries extremely light for such a big blade and slicing machine.
