Which Spyderco should I buy next

Hey guys and gals,

I'm plotting my next Spydie purchase, and I want to know what everyone thinks. The most important attribute is that the blade length must be very close to 3" (Cursed municipal knife laws in some of the surrounding cities limit carry to 3" blade or shorter. I'm generally comfortable carrying up to 3.1" in those cities, but I get very nervous carrying anything 3.1"+ because they are -technically- not legal to carry in public in those cities, though there is some debate as to whether the concealed weapons permits in my state would cover carrying a knife that is restricted by the municipality. I'm not willing to be the test case.) In the 3" range, I currently have a couple of FRN Delicas, a Sage, a Chaparral, and a G10 Native 5.

With that in mind, I was thinking of getting either a Caly 3 CF, a Sage 2, 3, or 4, or a Titanium/Damascus Delica.

Of these 5 knives, which ones do you recommend, and why? Are there any that I should rule out? Are there any other 3" Spydies I need to be considering?

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Out of those five, I'd have to say Sage 2. It's a flat out excellent knife though I only briefly had one. It'd give you at least one titanium framelock in your collection and something different.

I would lean toward the Caly given your options. It's thinner and lighter than the Sage 2 if that is important. Another consideration might be the UK Pen Knife.

I have the Sages, Chaparral 1 & 2, LW Native, and some frn Delicas. All of them are great knives, but the knife that gets the most pocket time with me is the CF Caly 3. The ergos of the Sage and the Chaparral may be a little better (for me) than the Caly, but I love how the Caly practically disappears in my pocket and the ZDP steel is amazing.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
I like the look of the UKPK and PITS, but I prefer locking blades.
I have given both the Techno and Dice some thought, but they are both a little shorter than what I'm looking for right now.
I do currently own a Chaparral and I like it quite a bit.
Looks like Caly 3 has the most votes so far.

Thanks, this is quite helpful!

This is helpful as well... I haven't handled a Sage 2 or Caly 3 yet. I have a sage 1 and it 'feels' thinner than it actually is, especially compared to the Native 5 which 'feels' thicker than it actually is. I prefer carrying thinner, lighter knives like Delicas most of the time, but I'm not opposed to carrying the chunkier knives when the mood strikes (I carried around a BM300 all day today ; )

My vote goes to the Damascus Delica. It entirely steps up the overall quality of the knife, while remaining the same useful, slim form.

I have two Caly 3's (long story) in carbon fiber, I have the Sage 1&2. The Caly CF is very high quality but I would much prefer to have a G10 Caly 3. My Caly 3.5 G10 is my favorite carry knife. The carbon fiber on the Caly 3 is very slick. My Sage 1 is carbon fiber over G10 I believe and it is much grippier.

Honestly I think the Sage 1 is a better value at around $105 over the 2 which is $25+ more but I love the liner lock on the Sage 1 personally. If the Caly 3 was G10 I would take it over all of your other choices and if the Sage 1 was an option that would be my 2nd choice(it's my 2nd favorite EDC, behind my G10 Caly 3.5).

Good luck and keep us informed.

go for the Dice .. it something totally different which made it unique and stand out from the rest of the spyderco that you have!

What about a Dragonfly? I bought one a few months ago. It's very nice for light EDC tasks.
