Which Spyderco to get?

I currently do not own any Spydies. I am thinking about the FFG Delica 4 because of the FFG and limited production BUT I like the look of the Persistance and the Cat better. I want something under a 3" blade for EDC tasks.

So out of the following which should I get:

Cat
Chicago
Delica 4 FFG
Persistance

Is the VG10 that much better than the 8Cr13MoV or the CPMS30V?

Just get the one that looks nicest to you. For general edc uses all those knives should do fine. s30v and vg10 are better steels, but none of them are 'bad' necessarily

If you can, try to handle all of them in person before making a decision. Usually, the choice between two knives becomes clear as soon as you find out which one fits your hand better.

I haven't been able to find any of these in local stores but a Delica 4 :(

check out the endura in vg10. a good steel that newbies can sharpen to razor edge. of course it's nice if you have d.m.t. diamonds.

The Delica is one of Spyderco's flagship knives. I would start there. From there you might find yourself wanting a Caly or one of the numerous smaller blades.

But I'd recommend the Delica as a good introduction to the brand and a great EDC.

VG-10 and S30V are, imo, much better than 8cr.

That said, I recommend the centofante 3 as a light user. But out of your list, Delica is what I would buy.

Delicas are just the right size. I have two: Ist model with zytel clip/AUS 8 , and 2nd gen ATS 55. Found the ATS 55 to be a harder steel. The 3rd and 4th gen. are even better , IMO. I'd replace mine in a heartbeat if I had to. Best folder I found to clip onto shorts in the summer.

My gut says blue since that is my fav color but it may look too much like a toy. Brown seems to be most popular so I was thinking that maybe it looks nicer than in the pics. Gray seems like a safe bet also.

I wouldn't discount the Manix 2 from your selection. Rock solid, one heck of a EDC'n knife..

I had a similar thread, and mentioned the cat was one of my choices, basically I was told, (and if you are thinking of the cat) to try the dragonfly, and if you have the money the g10 version
wire clip, vg10 steel, g10 scales 57 mm blade length (2 1/4 inches), 110 bucks and that becuase the cat was a new knife, the production fit and finish were not quite as good as the g10 Dfly, as it had been in production for longer, and like all the knives you listed, it has adustable pivot, which is quite handy, as opposed to the pinned construction on the cat
