Which Spyderco?

I just picked up a Spyderco mini lockblade at a Gun & Knife show this past weekend (great shape, great price, etc), but I'm wondering which model I have as there is no identification on the knife itself.

Here's the description:

Folded, it's 2.5 inches...the semi-serrated blade is 2 inches long.

Black micarta handle with a key-ring hole at the end.

Missing the ubiquitous Spyderco logo, but has "spyderco" at the base of one side of the blade and "seki japan" at the base of the other side.

Anybody have any idea which one I have?

You have a Ladybug! really neat little knife, and not at all a toy.

The handle should, I believe be either Zytel (a fiberglass epoxy resin) or Carbon Fiber, I dont believe it was ever made with a Micarta handle. The Zytel model has a molded textured pattern and the spyder is molded into one of the grip pannels.

The steel in either model is AUG 6, a little soft, but it sharpens easily and takes a good edge.

Thanks, guys!

I will indeed look into the Spyderco forums...are they at this same site?

I was told by the seller that the handle was Micarta though there was no good documentation pertaining to my particular knife (just some general Spyderco stuff). The handle does have the fiberglass "cross-thatch" look to it, especially on the ends and the inside (where the blade rests)...so it COULD be Zytel. The handle is exceptionally thin though, and I like carrying it the watch-pocket of jeans.

There is no Spyderco logo anywhere on the blade or handle though. And, it's not a "clipit" model either.

Judging from the pictures, it does look like I have a baby Goddard, but I'm not certain because no matter how I measure it...the blade is nowhere near 1.5"...it's much closer to 1.75" at the very least. Am I measuring wrong?

Thanks again for the info!

If the handle is cross hatched it is Zytel, not Micarta. I'm fairly sure what you have is a Dragonfly.

Ye Olde Spyderco Forum, you can find all the forums on this site by using the "Hop To" bar on the bottom of most any page.

Sal is no doubt in Vegas at SHOT, but he will know for sure.

The LadyBug II is the one with the molded-in spyder. It has a rescue-style (sheepsfoot) blade. Sounds like you have a LadyBug. AFAIK, other than the Mini Police Necklace, the LadyBug series is the only clipless Spyderco folder.

Idea. Try the Spyderco website, www.spyderco.com. They don't have EVERY Spyderco knife ever made (missing at least 6 that I know of), and it's slow as all get out, but it has every possibilty for this knife that I can think of.

A micarta Ladybug..?? I don`t think so. I really think we need a more detailed description.

If it looks like this:

and it doesn't have a clip, then it must be a LadyBug. Maybe it's the carbon-fiber LadyBug.

Here's the baby Wayne:

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it needs to go back in the microwave. Or something like that.

i'll have to go with longden and say that it is a baby wayne goddard. i have one in front of me and the measurement depends on where you take it from. cute little knife, ATS-55 steel, micarta handle. it's a constant companion on my keychain.

Baby Wayne Goddard hasn't a clip either. It is of micarta and pic can be seen in page that longden linked. It is of Gin-1.
One should always carry a spyderco pocket catalogue.

Alright, thanks again for the help guys...

But, the jury has now come to a unanimous decision on this. I have...

...a baby Goddard.

Go to this site:
http://www.continet.com/goddardknives/clipits.html

And scroll down to "Baby Goddard." THAT is my knife. The only confusion for me is that the measurements are a little off. My blade is no less than 1.75", whereas they list it as 1.5" (maybe I'm measuring wrong?). Also, notice that it says that it's the only Goddard without the clip, mine doesn't have one either.

One question though, that site doesn't show what type of handle the Baby Goddard has. I was told it was Micarta by the seller, but as discussed here, it looks like Zytel. Any light-shedders out there?

(Props to Longden for "nailin' it" early on, btw.

MrSig, I bought one for my daughter last year, so I know it's micarta.

Micarta (at least on the Goddard) looks like black painted wood with a slight graininess to it. Zytel looks smooth and uniform like you'd expect injection molded plastic to look.

And as Ewok states, the measurements vary from state to state, agency to agency and person to person. Some measure the curved cutting edge, some measure tip to non-cutting edge, some measure tip to pivot, and some tip to the front end of the handle.
