After I get my sharpmaker 204, my BM 710HS, and various other knife related items, I'll have around 65 dollars left. So, I've decided to get a fully-serrated spyderco. Which spyderco, that is 65 dollars or less, should I get? I've selected these knives:

serrated calypso jr. lightweight
serrated delica
serrated dragonfly

Also, which site do you knife nuts think I should get the knife from?

From the three you listed I would suggest the Calypso Jr. The knife is a pure marvel in design and cutting power. It would complement the 710 very well. Take a pick from any of the fine dealers here on BFC. I've used many of them and none have done me wrong.

This is based mostly on aesthetics. And, it may be useless since I don't share your affinity for serrations.

The Calypso Jr Ltwt has been described by Joe Talmadge and others as sort of being in a class by itself when it comes to cutting/slicing. I've not used mine much, but have no doubts they are correct. To me, using a serrated blade would somehow take away the most outstanding feature the knife offers.

I think the Delica is perfect for a fully serrated edge. It has been the EDC for thousands for many years. I see it as a perfect backup knife to go with your 710. Of course, it could come in handy for the rougher cutting jobs you faced.

I believe the Navigator is kind of a rough 'n ready sort of knife, that would be fine fully serrated. Don't have one, so can't speak with any authority.

My $.02 worth.

I usually don't like serrations either, but I wanted to have a serrated knife as a back-up to my 710.:)

I don't own any of those three, but have heard many spyderco owners rave about their calypso jr. so I would have to suggest that one.

If you are considering the delica, wait until Fall.

Steel change from ATS-55 to VG-10 and change from hollow-sabre grind to flat sabre grind. I HATE FRN, but I think with these changes, I will be forced to give in and get the Delica, especially if the new ones come with blue FRN scales.

Dragonfly is pretty small. Nice knife, but I am finding that 2 inch and below knives are just a bit too small. If you want the flat grind today, get the Calypso Jr. Lightweight.

Why not the "best of both worlds" (fully serrated AND plain-edge), and buy yourself a Dyad or Dyad Jr.?.:).

Today, I carried my 710 and my delica. Makes a great combo.

The full serrated delica is a very nice knife. It's my usual left hand carry. It has a lot of cutting power, doesn't dull easily, and it's easy to deploy. It's also not too threating to sheeple, though it's more so than the dragonfly.

I found the dragonfly to be too small. The delica is about perfect for my hands. You might want to handle both before deciding.

The calypso jr. is a very nice knife as well. However, don't get it with serrations - it's a terrific blade, and is best in the plain variety. If you're going to get a serrated blade to complement your 710, get the delica.

Carrying a serrated blade has a lot of benefits. It requires very little sharpening, is very hard to make unusuably dull, and goes through fiborous materials (like a seat belt) very quickly. In my opinion, Spyderco makes the best serrations available. I've used mine to hack/saw/cut through lots of things that I would never even consider using a plain edged blade on (e.g. beer cans, hard plastics). The teeth will eventually dull down, but given patience and practice, you can bring them back to life.

Life is full of hard choices. Good luck. Perhaps eventually, you'll get all three. I know I will. :)

The Calypso Jr. gets alot of great reviews but...
I owned one (with the AUS-8 and micarta handle no less) and it was one beautiful knife. It cut really well too. But the handle just felt too uncomfortable to use. My wife has a Delica and it is very comfortable to use and it cuts like crazy too (but still not as nice as my Rescue).
Either knife will be great but I suggest you handle them both and pay alot of attention to the grip.

BTW, I gave my Calypso Jr. to my Father-In-Law as a gift. He's not a knife-freak like me...YET!

Good luck,
Allen.

The calypso jr is awesome, but I wonder if a fully serrated edge is the best on a knife that is a world class slicer. My first choice in your price range would be the fully serrated Endura. Delica is fine if you need to stay smaller. But you just set a price, no size specs.

Jefroman,

I have the Calypso Jr. Serrated I wanted the plain edge but when it arrived via ups to my surprize it was serrated guess what it's a cutting machine I love it.
I don't think you could go wrong with a Calypso Jr.
