Which spydie to get next?

Since the holidays are here, I will most likely be coming into a little bit of new cash, as my relatives never seem to know what to buy me and a check usually ends up being sent my way. This means that there is a possibility for a new knife.

I am carrying a blue PE salsa right now, but it doesn't have the point I would like. I would also like something a tad larger. I am considering the grey calypso jr and the native III (both PE). I like both models in the hand and was wondering where you guys stand on this - the use would be mostly light, but the blade will also be available for whatever I might need it for.

Thanks.

They'd both be great for everything, but the Calypso, Jr. will probably outslice the Native III on many tasks and harder to obtain if you don't join the mad rush to obtain one now or the tempered rush to claim the few that might be sold off in a few months.

Get the Native III...I have one, and it has become one of my favorite Spydies!

I guess I'd also like some help from those who know about a couple of particular aspects of these two knives. How are they as far as profile in the pocket - how much knife shows, and how 'full' does your pocket feel?

The Calypso jr is by far the flatter one, with only a sliver showing outside above the clip. I've got one of the 01 models, right after the forum got advance word on the discontinue. My Grey is enroute to the buyer then to me. Can't wait.

The III is fat, harder to flip closed as you go(tends to catch on the index), and has about an inch showing above the pocket. I've got #036 of the forum models(blue FRN, PE), and carry it.

If you can, try to get one of the grey calypso jr models now, or pray you can grab one in a few months off ebay. NewGraham has had the III without markings for a while, but the calypso are flying off.

alphabrass01,
I don't have a grey calypso Jr. (yet) but comparing the original Calypso Jr and the Native III the 3-D handle of the native fills up the pocket a little more than the Calypso Jr. Also to me the Calypso Jr. seems that it fits smaller hands better than the Native III. Thombrogan eluded to the sliceing ability of the Calypso Jr. Is probably from the full flat grind (native III is a Hollow grind). I find myself carrying the Native III more than the Calypso Jr. but I think it fits my hands better. Also if you want more options in the Native III the PE is also available in Blue :)
My 2c US,
Chris

i love the native design, but i too would suggest you to get the calypso because i've heard nothing but good comments about it

That's an easy one: get the Calypso jr. It's among the best knives in the world and it's a limited edition (only 1000 pieces and I guess it'll sell like fresh bread). You can get yourself a Native anytime later.
