Which steel for an Ingram?

I've got a #6 drop point on order from Gene Ingram. Currently, I've specified D2 as the steel. He'll also do one in S30V if requested. What I'm looking for in this knife is versatility- slicing, pushcutting, ease of sharpening, ruggedness. Corrosion resistance is not a huge concern. For a general bushcraft knife, is D2 the best way to go?

With a small knife like that yes, good and long edge retention, not the easiest to sharpen, but, you can :)

Sorry, should include that the knife is
Blade: 4.25"
Style: Drop Point
Grind: Flat
Thickness: 5/32"
Tang: Full

Not unrealistic to expect this knife to baton, do food prep, whittle, make fuzz sticks, etc.
Definitely no prying, digging, or other extreme use.

i have 2 of gene's knives in D2......excellent. scary sharp and great heat treating.....they hold an edge "forever".

plus gene will reshapen it for free when you need it. just pay the postage both ways.

i have his # 12 and the "shortcut". superb knifemaker

gene makes some great knives.... i have a #30 drop point in S30V.. this thing is razor sharp.... so far, i have no complaints with this steel... i am starting to really like it actually..... i think i need to get one in D2 now....:D

I had one of Charles May's knives in D2. His knives are very similar to Genes (I think Gene was his teacher).

Go with the D2, you won't be sorry!

You can not and I repeat "can not" go wrong with Gene's knives. I have a #6
with seacow scales, I have had it since Jan. And have not had to sharpen it yet !
