Which steel for Round knife?

Hi Guys,
I have made a few knives in the past and now I am looking into attempting leather sheaths too.
I would like to try a round knife but I am wondering which steel will be more suitable for a knife intended for cutting and splitting, shaving leather. Which would be better - D2 or 154CM for edge retention and best cutting?
