I was thinking about sending in a 110 for a blade upgrade, and I'm curious what steels are currently available. Is there any BG-42 available?

yes it is a week by week is it here yet call in thing to do....
and if it is do not wast time wandering if you should,,,

Who or what department would one ask for if checking BG-42 availability? I just called, asked for the custom shop, and got the voice mail of a Sarah Buck. I didn't want to talk to a machine, so I hung up and cried like a little girl.

LOL...
GirlyMan! That is funny.
But sirusly, that's who'd know.
I'm thinking Buck is miising out on a lot of orders by not getting this cleared up. I want to order a 110 with Koa, but want to know what is available first.

Just to play Devil's advocate...I would think that Buck has a lot more important/revenue producing/pressing orders going through right now, for volume order submitting customers, rather than tie up valuable resources on 5 or 6 individuals wanting a new blade/scales for their 110...

I hate to bug 'em during the holiday rush, but, if there's BG-42 available, I want some! Do you think they can hold a blade or two until I can manage to ship the 110s to them?

No blade swaps are available until the end of January. :(

If you call Buck and someone tells you that we can do a swap, they are wrong. I have informed everyone here that this service is on hold for now but you never know who you might reach when you call Buck and you might reach someone that does not know.
Not to sound harsh, I just dont want there to be any misunderstandings about this.

Offering blade swaps was something that I started a few years back, just because I thought it would be a cool thing to offer our customers. We have never advertised it in our catalogues, it has always been a best kept secret kind of thing.
I encountered oposition at the plant because doing this obviously takes away from potential Custom Shop orders but I insisted and took care of the requests through my repairs department.

I read the speculations above....Nope, thats not it at all. They are on hold because I am currently behind about a week in the repairs department. This is the department where all the warranty repairs are done. It is hunting season and we get a lot of knives in this time of year.
Doing the blade swaps takes extra time because they are like a fish swimming against the current here as far as how they are processed. The only reason I do them at all is because, like I said above, it is a very cool thing to offer and I can tell that a lot of guys and gals love the idea of retrofitting their favorite old 110 with a new high tech blade. It definetely is not a money making venture but it makes me feel good about my job to be able to offer this when I can. Hopefully, by the end of January, I will be posting that the blade swaps are again available and I will have a list of the blade steels available too.
I'm very sorry to have to cut this service off for now. :(

Thank you for clearing this up Joe!
And thanks for offering the blade upgrades!
I/we will look forward to seeing what steels will again be available...
Merry christmas!

Thanks, Mr. Houser. I'm glad for the blade upgrades I have, and I'll be happy to see upgrades offered again someday. Until then, I extend my appreciation for such a great American company.

I completely forgot I'd posted this question. Thanks for the info Joe, I shall be patiently waiting.
