Which style Benchmade Mini-Grip should I purchase??

I will be purchasing a benchmade mini-grip for an EDC knife. (Opening boxes, bubble envelopes, cutting cables, tubing, bags, & maybe self defense IF I ever need to, although I'd probably run before I pull a knife).

I need your opinions on which style/design I should purchase.

Tanto or Drop Point?

Plain Edge or Partially Serrated?

Silver or Black blade?

My choice would be (Tanto/Drop Point, don't know?), partially serrated, and black. What do you guys think??

I also want to purchase something bigger, maybe not an everyday knife but something to compliment my mini grip. I'm looking at the BENCHMADE 710 D2. Should I get a plain edge or Black BT2 Coated Partially Serrated?

Last knife I want is a spyderco tasman salt to use with my saltwater fish tank. (Cutting bags, boxes, tubing) Same question, plain edge or fully serrated?

THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE YOU THROW MY WAY!!

I would get drop point, plain edge, and either silver/black blade (wichever one looks best to you). But in the end its your decision not mine. In my opinion, For EDC tasks, the drop point would be the better than the tanto.

Thanks, I really like the look of tanto like you but I guess for everyday use, it's kind of pointless. (Unless I stab someone) :D

I'll probably go drop point, partially serrated, all black.

Any reasons not to go serrated? I'm thinking "best of both worlds" if I go with both?

Drop, plain, satin finish, pick a color to maintain sheeple friendlyness, if you care
No serrations because theres too little of each on the Mini grip, IMHO

Tanto is great for opening boxes, but that's about it

drop-point, plain edge, and whatever you prefer

you don't need a tanto unless you're going to be doing lots of stabbing

go with a serrated if you're going to be cutting lots of cables or rope

But that 5% of the time that you need it, you'll be glad you did.. ;)

I've decided on a drop point, plain edge, yellow handle for sheeple friendliness. (This will be my EDC)

But also want to pick something up to compliment it.

Either another mini grip, drop point, partially serrated, all black (I really like the look)

OR, a 710 D2? (Partially Serrated, all black)

What do you think?

I've pretty much had it with the black, half serrated, tactical type knives. The Buck 110s always seemed like a redneck thing. If you had one of those you probably also had a wallet on a chain and a black tee shirt. The 556 is a nice small knife and also looks kinda cool. I have at least a dozen 110s and 112s but my edc is a Buck Nobleman with the titanium finish. It's great for everyday jobs and is very people friendly.

There's a pretty big size difference in blade length between the mini-Grip (2.9" blade) and a 710 (3.9" blade). If that's not a concern, the 710 is a great knife. If it is, then there are other options. A lot of people really like the BM 520 / 525 series. Also, the mini-Rukus (3.75" blade) is bigger than the mini-Grip and so is the HK 14200 (3.4" blade), but both are shorter than the 710, although the 710 is probably a little thinner than either the mini-Rukus or the 14200.

I would compliment it with a fully serrated spyderco delica or equivalent, if you deal with fibrous materials.

Try a mini in a custom kydex sheath as a necker and a full size Ritter Grip in the pocket. Makes a nice edc carry rig, at least for me.

Matador-

I'd skip the mini-grip and buy a Spyderco Delica, I think you'd find it to be perhaps the best EDC knife of that size. However, you may also want to skip the mini-grip and buy that BM 710 plain edge without the blade coating. I prefer Spydercos in general but many people on here will tell you the 710 is one of the finest knives made by anyone period. You'll be surprised how easy it is to carry for its size and how well it can handle both delicate and hard tasks.

For that Spyderco salt get the serrated edge if you know you'll just be using it to cut/open things. The reason I prefer plain edges is it is harder to make clean cuts or do more delicate work with a SE.

I've had my 110 for a long time as I've stated elsewhere (today even!) and I've never had a wallet with a chain! Seriously, the 110 is pretty redneckish though.

I like my 556, but I think it's a bit small (I have big hands. I'm 6'4" and go well over 350 lbs.). Agree with other posts here that the half serrated edge is probably not necessary or all that useful on a knife this small. Definitely like that I got it in all black, however after a week or two pocket carry some of the black is wearing off the clip already.

I have got the Mini Ritter and the 710 (and the even bigger Tsek 803:D )
I bring the Mini Ritter with me everytime and the others mostly stay home for food preparation:rolleyes:
710 is nice but big !

I'm amazed that no one mentioned that the black coating on the Grip series comes off very easily. My gf has the 556 P/S coated blade and her finish was lightly scratched up after cutting 2 boxes. If you dont mind carring the knife and using it, than all means get what you like.

My ritter mini-grip has marks from me putting the wave feature on it, so I dont really care what I cut anymore =P.
