Which Swiss Army knife do you recommend that I can get for $30 or under which is gonna give me the most bang for the buck?

Just about all SAKs with 4 springs or less are under $30 on the net. On the standard 91 mm Victorinoxes, the first two springs are generally used for the two knife blades and the can and bottle openers.

For pocket carry, I would suggest that you limit yourself to 3 springs. Personally I like the Hiker or Camper with a wood saw.

If you would rather have scissors, there is the Climber.

If you don’t mind the extra thickness of a 4 spring model, you can have both a wood saw and scissors as the Fieldmaster or Huntsman; or with scissors and a magnifying glass as the Explorer.

If you prefer Alox scales to cellidor there are several models available (my favorite is the Farmer).

You can also get on of the larger (111 mm) lock blade SAKs for $30 or less (I like the Hunter and One-hand Trailmaster models).

I like the Trailmaster model which I got for $18, and I've seen it for $15 once. Pluses are one hand blade and no corkscrew, minus is a bottle opener. It is a three spring which is the thickest I can comfortably carry in jeans. Very handy. If you are a corking wino with fingernails, the Rucksack is OK;)

Hi stich,

Where have you found the SAK Trailmaster for $15 - $18? I just paid @ $23 for a Victorinox Hunter (not including S&H). Looking to buy a couple of other models. I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Morning Diablero, I saw the TM on blowout at SMKW for 15 shortly after I got mine at Campco for 18. Problem with Campco is their inventory variety is limited, you have to (pretend?) be a buisness, and your initial order must total $150, thereafter $25 minimum. That said, they have wholesale pricing, cheap, prompt shipping, and excellent service. You can easily find $150 worth of goods there that you want, trustme. Diablero, Inc. works.

I vote for the Delux Tinker. It has the srissors and the pliers.

I'll also put in a word for the Victorinox Deluxe Tinker...It's one of the best.

also means lower prices:

minimum - Alox Bantam - 1 layer/backspring wide - very thin:

bantam alox #53949
size:84 mm | 3 1/4 inch
Large blade
Bottle opener
can opener
Screwdriver
Wire stripper

Waiter (US model #53891)- still one layer - but cellidor/plastic handles, adds corkscrew, tweezers, toothpick, keyring.
[also the small jewellers' screwdriver can bought as an extra and stored in the corkscrew]

If you want scissors - the Compact knife (US model #54941) - only two layers.

I'm a Tinker man. I EDC a Tinker and I have a Trailmaster (NOT one-handed) for 'in the woods'.

nyyanks81,

drop me an email.

The Tinker and the Soldier are both very useful and comfortable in the pocket.

Several fine suggestions have been made already but I'll throw in my two cents as well. Among my V'nox are the Tinker, Soldier, silver Alox Bantam and the silver Alox Cadet. I usually carry one of these as a back up to my small Sebbie. I find the presence of a smaller blade and/or the occasionally needed tool to be very helpful. Any of them would make a good choice and could be found for well under $30.00.
