I am looking for a Swisstool, and I see there are at least a couple of different models to choose from. It looks like there is the Swisstool Spirit, the Swisstool RS, and the Swisstool Plus. There may even be more. Which one is best?

My two faves are the Spirit X , and the Swisstool RS . In point of fact the Spirit will do 95% of what the Swisstool will do , and feels like steel bewbies in the hand .

Best for what?

There's really only two different multitools in the Swisstool line. The other variations only differ in an individual tool or two.

The Swisstool is a beefy full sized multitool.

The Swisstool X version has scissors instead of a serrated blade.

The Swisstool RS has scissors and a seatbelt cutter instead of a file and serrated blade.

The Swisstool CS seems to be the same as the X with a "plus" package.

The Swisstool Spirit is a completely different multitool altogether. It is a smaller, lighter, and more ergonomic multitool with slightly updated tools.

The Spirit X has a traditional SAK-style plain edged knife instead of the "butter knife" blade (the serrations and lack of a sharp point make it resemble a butter knife blade, although it is very sharp).

The Spirit S has the traditional SAK-style blade instead of scissors.

Both models are available in a "Plus" package. They come with a wrench, corkscrew, and some hex bits. They add a lot of bulk to the sheath. There is also a set with a ratchet instead of a wrench.

Some black oxide variants are also available instead of polished.

If you need a full sized multitool, get one of the Swisstool variants.

If you want an EDC tool, get the Spirit.

The rest comes down to how you feel about serrated blades and scissors, more or less.

Full Disclosure: Although I am a huge Vic and SAK fan I don't currently own any plier based Vic multis. That being said, the Swisstool RS is on order and I will be picking it up shortly. I very, very, rarely need a file and found the other tools a better choice for me.

And just to prove that we're all different.... the file is probably the tool I use most on my Wave and I will be buying a Swisstool with one, probably the swisstool x :D

And that's both the point (what do you want it for?) and also the fun (why not have more than one tool?)

Go with what suits your needs. I've been EDC-ing the Spirit X since I got it and I'm yet to regret the decision. Actually I took it off from my belt on 3 occasions thus far
