i'm thinking about the Surefire 6Z with the 'higher output' lamp....want it for "tactical" use. gotta love the gadgets!
Anyway, would you recommend this? is there a different brand that's better (price can be a bit more)? i basically want a push button on the bottom; metal body, etc...
Finally, where would the place be to buy whatever you would recommend, at the lowest price?
Any input would be most appreciated...

At the current prices, the SureFire 6Z is really good value. Around $65 + $17.50 for P61 is a great deal.
The SureFire M2 also has a tactical grip, but is $105 (inc P61)

I was going to get an M2 before my situation changed... It's meant to be a lot tougher than the older SureFires being waterproof, hard anodized to Mil. Spec. etc and has a Z41 LockOut TailCap ($24) which is great.

I was going to buy from Botach Tactical - Great Prices. I'd phone the order as oyou can check that they have it in stock etc.

I hope you find the SureFire you're after!

KELT,

I use the MiniMag Lite(AA size). It can be used as a palm stick too. I also have a Photon light on my keychain. If you want the push button on the bottom, check out the Streamlight Junior. Both of these flashlights cost about $10 and are well made. Of course, if you want one of the high end lights the SureFire is probably the way to go. I'll probably buy one of the small ones someday.

Kelt,
Before you make your final decision, check out this recent thread regarding the TACMIII:
http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum57/HTML/000175.html

You have to drill down a bit to get to the good stuff, but pay particular attention to yeedude's comments and pics. I have since mounted one on my USP .40 and really like it.

Bronco is right - digging gets you results.

I've never compared an M2 w/ P61 and a TACMIII as I have neither. Let's see if we can find someone to post beam photos of the two side-by-side...

Thanks to all!!

Brian, i'm checking out that Botach D2 to see what i think of it...then i'll check out that other manufacturer listed above...

Kelt, the D2 is very much like the P6 w/addition of removable pocket clip & lockout tail cap. I just ordered one & will let you know how I like it in a few days.

How do you define "tactical?" Will you use it in conjunction with a firearm, on duty, or will it be for everyday, just in case types of situations?

For everyday, JIC type stuff, I like the Streamlight Scorpion, or Surefire 6P (standard lamp). I also really like the TACM, and use mine alot.

One step up is the Surefire 9P, or updated D3.

Another step up, though now entering the tactical realm is a D3 w/turbo head, which I just received from the good folks at Lagger-Pro (www.lagger-pro.com). This light is VERY bright, and not too big.

The 6Z/9Z lights are good for tactical firearm stuff. I'm not too crazy about the new Surefire Millennium lights, as I think they are over priced.

How you Americans can complain about price is beyond me!

I was going to save almost as much as I was going to spend by buying in the USA (~$600)

In England, the SureFire flashlights and the Lithium batteries work out twice or up to five times as expensive!

But then again, it's more expensive to live here, as everything is taxed beyond reality!

Alastair.

P.S. Hopefully you get a product worth the extra cash when you opt for the Millenniums.

9N as backup. Even though I need a new rechargable battery already.
