I have narrowed it down to the following, based upon blade shape, and a certain price range. Any thoughts on these?

Emerson CQC16
ZT 0200
Spyderco Persian
Cold Steel Recon 1 27TLC

I wouldn't consider the Persian "tactical" at all, but maybe that's just me.

I'd consider the emerson, ZT, and cold steel all "heavy duty" knives as opposed to "tactical".

I'd go with the 0200 as the value of the knife is extraordinary, but I haven't owned a cold steel and the only emerson I owned had serious issues.

Of those listed, Id go with either the Emerson or ZT. Check out the CQC 13 as well, its similar to the 16.

Thanks all
Right, persian not really tactical. I just like the looks.
For the money sounds like ZT is good, but will closer at Emerson also.

Personally, I have only owned the zt out of those listed, and I absolutely love it! Great, tough folder, affordable, and still has that tactical look/feel without accusations of mall ninja-ism haha. You cant really go wrong with any of the zt knives tbh.

What is 'tactical'? Why isn't the Persian 'tactical'?

Here's my tactical folder. It's 'tactical' because I have a Kahr P9 with Crimson Trace LaserGrips hidden inside it. :D

Seriously, what does 'tactical' mean when discussing knives? AFAIK all locking folders are 'tactical'.

I'd really go with the Emerson if you have your heart set on those 3. If you like the Recon 1, try the AK47. Same Tri-Ad lock but has a wave thumbplate that opens your knife on the draw like Emerson. FWIW, I trust the Tri-Ad lock more than any liner lock, esp the anorexic liners on the Emerson. If you must go Emerson, try the 13. It has the thickest liners of all the production models.

Hahahah...Well played.

All good choices, I own the ZT, the Recon 1, and I have the CQC 8, which I do recommend. And I don't have the persian, but I have yet to hear of spyderco doing anybody wrong. Just go with what you like then.

I guess it really depends on the arena you're playing in. The Persian probably has the best ergs, but not lightning fast on deployment. The Emerson Commander and Karambit I used to own were great knives. Can't say about the ZT, but I want one. If I had to make your choice, I would try the ZT. I hear nothing but fantastic things about them.

I just got the ZT0200 for Christmas and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The thing is workhorse, a bit too big and heavy for carrying around town IMO. I plan on using it primarily at work, where it will get it's share of abuse which I think it'll handle without a hitch. :D
