This is my first time on the forum. My current EDC broke several months ago and I started to research it's replacment. After reading about Kershaw's great customer service and that it is made in the USA I've decided to get one for Christmas.

The two models that I like are a Cyclone or Blur. My big question is what are the major advantages to the different types of steel used in model and is one better than the other for EDC.

Thanks

Get the Cyclone. The steels are the same (at-least in my '07 Kershaw catalog). The Cyclone has a flipper to get the AO started (I don't like the thumb studs with the AO), and it also has the on/off wheel to turn the AO off if you don't want to scare sheeple with the "switchblade action".

if you want the better steel, go with the blur, either the SG2 or S30V blur. if you dont mind a "worse" (not that sandvik really is worse. its an awsome steel IMO) blade, go with the cyclone (along with what glockman said). both are great. just get both lol. you eventually will!

Mini Cyclone vote here...I like em...I've got 6. Two Minis in Ti/ZDP, two full sized (one satin, one black) and two Minis (again one satin, one black). all are PE, and I've never had any problems with the 13C26.

IMO, of the two you listed, I would suggest the Mini Cyclone. I've got one, and it's a very well built knife.

if you are planning on using an EDC and really beating it up i would recommend the MINI cyclone ZDP. i have been abusing the hell out of it for nearly a month now and it wont quit. the SG2 blur is a great slicer and the softer trac-tec inserts make it really a comfortable knife for around half the price. i am warning you though, if you buy one kershaw, you will be hopelessly addicted and forced to feed that addiction every time kershaw comes out with some new amazingness......which is like every other week.

personally i have the red rescue blur in my car at all times, the sg2 in my pocket every now and then and the ti-mini zdp on me at all times. and a black mini plain edge cyclone around as a backup.

and thats just to start...lol

have fun with your newfound hobby :) and just break down now and buy them both.

You can't go wrong with any of the above suggestions; they're all great knives. I've been carrying a Lg. Cyclone for a couple of weeks now, and love it. I'm thinking of a Mini Cyclone in the near future though, as it's a little more "Sheeple Friendly".

Like O-Lover said, get both! Good luck.

I have really enjoyed owning the Damascus Leek probably as much overall as any other Kershaw I've had but here lately I have taken a shine to the Tyrade as well even though its way big and not near as thin edged as I like to have on me. Even still its darn hard to put down.

Thanks for everyones advice. After going back and forth on which one to get I received a nice AMEX gift card from the sales team I support. So it looks like I'll just get both.

Merry Christmas
