Hi guys , im new to this site , seems pretty cool, i've been looking round for a general purpose knife and recently have come a across sog , the 2 knifes I have found are similar sizes however they both have diffarent locking systems , I dont know which is more reliable/user friendly/easiest to sharp .... etc ,the cost isnt issue as they are both in my budget .Thanks for your time.

Here are some general differences between the two:

If you have large hands, I recommend going with the Flash 2. It's large enough to fit comfortably in the palm, where as the Twitch 2 is much smaller and harder for me to comfortably open and handle. (Because of this, if I'm looking for a Twitch, I actually prefer the Twitch XL.)

The Flash 2 has a lighter feel- This is mostly because of the Zytel handle versus the Aluminum Handle of the Twitch 2. (There is also an Aluminum Handle Flash 2 option- it has a significantly higher price point, but it's heavier & has a *slightly* smoother opening action, in my opinion.)

The handle on the Flash 2 has a checkered texture and is much thicker than that of the Twitch 2, which is very slim and smooth... If you're looking for something with better grip, go with the Flash 2.

Both knives include the spring-assisted opening mechanism, although the Twitch 2 has the added feature of a pass-through lockbar with a kick. This "kick" gives an additional option for opening, if you find thumbstud opening cumbersome.

As far as the two different styles of release, it's really all about whether you prefer the release on the side for a Flash 2 or a lockback on the Twitch 2. I've never had a problem with either.

If you're interested in a half serrated option, or want a black TiNi coating, go with the Flash 2- the Twitch 2 only comes in a Satin finished straight edge.

Both knives include a safety to lock the knife closed, and both knives have AUS8 steel blades, so unless you have serrations either shouldn't be difficult to sharpen with the right tools.

Hope that helps!

There is a little blade play on some of the Flash IIs, but very little. There are some people who consider a little play a defect, but I am not on that list especially with spring opening type knives. If you want a rock hard solid blade then buy a fixed blade.....

my flash ii developed lateral blade play shortly after i opened it and did a few wrist snaps -
i can shake it when closed and hear the blade rattle a bit. the V grind was quite off-center on mine too.
not very pleased with that but otherwise i love my flash ii.

how exactly does the "piston lock" work? i never quite understood it. does it look like an axis lock inside?

Twitch XL was the house edc for 1 year! Nothing but high praise for this product. Twitch II is fantastic too. Rotation calls for a Leek S30V/G10 as the current EDC for the next 10 months. Leek is working out even better so far.

I just got a FlashII today and I'm rather pleased with it. It has a teeny bit of vertical play but it otherwise locks up solid and the piston lock is nice and easy to use. The SAT feature is great and it opens with a nice little kick. Very sharp blade and the Zytel handle is comfortable and fits well in my hand.

Hi all, just joined up and it's been some interesting reading so far. I picked up a Flash I with the TiNi finish and it's a great knife. The SAT makes it nice and quick to open up and this puppy is SHARP. If you go with the Flash II you will not be sorry .

I have two Flash II (1 part. serrated/1 rescue). and I have a Twitch II. I agree the Twitch II seems a tad small (or my hands are just a tad big), So I'd maybe favor a Twitch XL. My Flash II(s) don't seem to have much (if any noticible play) but my Twitch II sure does. If I had to fault the Flash model ... the safety is a tad cumbersome and the thumbstuds should be further down the blade (not at the "point" of the finger grooves) again my hands maybe a tad big but I find the thumbstuds in a bad spot. I kind of wish I'd gotten the aluminum handled versions too. I don't think I care for the Zytel handles .... IMHO G-10 would have been an even better choice. Aside from my Twitch II being smallish and possibly a defect (its going back to S.O.G.) I do like the design of the knife and the operation is smooth ... springs maybe a tad slow (on all 3) but smooth.
