Well I am looking top get a new knife, sadly i can only get one (now anyway). I know they are 2 totally different knives. The Kopa I am looking at is the Tiger Coral. If i get this it might replace my current EDC (kershaw chive ss). I kinda like the look of the Kris I never seen a blade like that plus it looks very strong with the full steel liner and the weight. Any know how hard it would be to sharpen? So which would you get and why?

James

Personally, I'd get the Kopa, no question. It has a simple, elegant look (the Kris's too busy and silly), it'ss cut beautifully with that full flat grind, nobody'll ever give it a second look (grampa stealth! :D ), and the tiger coral's gorgeous.

So yeah, I'd get the Kopa, but then I'm biased against the Kris (the Persian, OTOH, is super sexy; that'd be a harder choice).

The Kris is a wonderful knife that's comfortable in any fighting grip. The blade sharpens easily using the sharpmaker as normal with the corners only. :) stay safe.

I own several KOPA's (Red Coral and Black MIcarta). Wonderful and elegant knife that I would highly recomend. Very sharp with good blade geometry. Easy to sharpen.

I do not own a Kriss, but other than the fact that they are both Spyderco's, I see them in two different worlds and hard to compare. I would also expect it to be more difficult to sharpen than the KOPA.

Get the Kopa first, put some money down on the Kris, so they will hold it for you.
Since they are only making 600 Tiger Coral Kopa's, get it now before it is gone. I saw the Tiger Coral, very nice, very elegant. GET IT!! :)
I think you will have a chance to pick up a Kris in the future.

Kopa! I have the Cocobolo Kopa -- its my EDC at work and I love it. For me, it's perfect. The fit and finish on this knife is impeccible. Smooth as silk and rock solid lockup. You will not be disappointed.

The Kris looks very interesting, but for me, the Kopa is more practical. Either one will get you the classic Spyderco quality, so you can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Well put Harry.

In general I would suggest to buy the one you will actually carry.
Kopas are beautiful but a bit too small for my taste.
I do EDC a Kris as I like the design.

I've had a Koppa Corral),for about a wk. and I love it.Hangs deep in the back pocket where it stays until needed.:)

Hi James,
I would pretty much agree with what has already been said so far and especially with what Harry White has said.
I own both of these knives. The Kris is an awesome knife! It is well made and I will never get rid of it. That said, I doubt it will get alot of pocket time( I make change my mind though;)). It is big and probably not very sheeple friendly.
The Kopa on the other hand is alot smaller, but really does act like a big knife. It is also a real awesome little knife.
If I may throw one more into the mix for you. I would suggest that you take a look at the C105 75mm Persian. It is kind of in the middle of the two knives you are asking about. It is another one of Ed Schempp's designs and is a winner!! Very nice size to carry and will handle pretty much any job. The build quality is great.
Here is a picture of the 3 knives.
Good luck, you won't go wrong with any Spyderco!!

My vote for Kopa, so far I have all five of them. Tiger Coral is beautiful knife and blade is very good. I do not care for Kris, but I like Ront's idea about Persian also.

I'd go with the Tiger Coral Kopa as well. There were only 600 of them made and they seem to be one of the most popular of the Kopas, so you may not be able to find one six months or a year from now. The Kris, on the other hand is regular production, and it should be around a good bit longer.

As for sharpening the Kris, if you've ever sharpened a recurve or reverse S blade, or even a hawkbill, the technique would be similar. Narrow stone, or the side/edge of a wide one, or a Sharpmaker and work slowly and carefully. Me, I stick with a straight or covex curve blade on my users, but I'm lazy by nature.

Greetings Liquid1980!

Welcome to Blade Forums!
Just my opinion.
Depends what you will be using the knife for. If it is for carrying around, showing off and light use, the Kris will do fine. The blade doesn't seem user friendly shape. If you plan to do anything more than opening mail and boxes, I would recommend the Kopa due to the blade shape.
This is just my ignorant opinion. I haven't handled any of these knives, just viewed the pics.
Hope my thought help.

Stay sharp!

Just had a little word with my Kris and it told me that in between showing off it is prepared to take on any Kopa anytime. What would you like it to do?

well guys thank you for all the info. i made up my mind. you rally had me sold on the kopa, but i thought what i would really want it for. i wouldn't be comfortable carrying a 100+ knife in my back pocket as my edc. so far i lost my first delcia that way. my ss chive will continue to have that role. i am going for the kris now. i am sure i will end up with the kopa at one point. i am just curious to see the next variations that come out.

deaths thank you for the welcome. i have been around here a bit i heard about this forum over at glocktalk.

Your welcome James. Which every knife you decide on, you can't really go wrong. They are Spydercos!
