I'm didn't want to start a war about fixed vs folder or comparing them in practical sense but I would like to hear the opinion that if you guy have big buck to spend on an expensive knife, which would you get between expensive fixed blade or high end folding knife and why?

For me, I always prefer fixed blade when it come to expensive grail because when I spend high amount of money for something I would like it to be steady as it could, fixed blade has no moving part to wear, can be done with awesome forged finished and also look much manlier, folder is for girl right :D

I have talked with my friend who a folder guy he said that folder is ฟ better investment for him because it EDCable, you can fond and feel with it, the sound, the walk, the flip etc. folder also need more detail on engineering, the look when it close, the pocket clip etc.
So what your opinion?

Folder...I enjoy the mechanical aspect, which just isn't there with fixed blades.

Folder. Some people can't legally carry a fixed blade, and even if they could, folders are easier to carry.

Folder, because I use them much more frequently than fixed blades. If I end up with more leisure time I'll be outdoors a lot more and then my answer might change.

Well, depending how "BIG" the budget is, you could probably get 2 very nice knives... 1 of each!! Why choose when you can have both - that's my motto.

Big bucks, buy both, if not I use my folders on a daily basis bc its just easier to carry and use. Imagine pulling out a Kessler, which is a beauty by the way to open a box at the post office. People tend to love Hinderer, Chris Reeve and some of the most commonly known spyderco and bench made folders. I just prefer a Hinderer or Chris Reeve for the quality but you will be paying a bit for them. In fixed blades you can still buy a smaller 3 inch fixed like a SAR 3 from Busse that can still not be too scary. Have fun shopping.

Ideally, I want both. In practice, I'm limited to a 3.5" blade by law and that pretty much just means folders. I've yet to find a fixed blade that feels right in that size range. The only thing I miss about Oklahoma is the generous knife laws.

I have the chance to use a folder a lot during the day at work, and it being more compact is a major factor

I guess that's why I have more folders, I can use them more , and get a bit more enjoyment out of them

My interpretation of the OPs question is as follows:

As far as money and customization goes you receive more bang for your buck with a custom fixed blade. Only so much can be done to a fixed blade and that keeps costs down. You look at SBKs kressler for example, and that's near the highest end of fixed blade customization (besides inflated loveless). Some of the highest end folders can exceed $20K.

To each their own, but if you have limited funds and you want custom materials and a hand ground blade, go fixed.

It depends. I go through different phases, depending on my mood or what I'm doing.

For instance, a while ago I met a few bladesmiths and was blown away by the whole forging process. I really enjoyed watching them work and learning about their techniques, they made mainly fixed blades so I spent a lot of my knife budget on fixed blades for a year or so. Later on a mate of mine became a dealer for ZT and Protech, I fell in love with some of those folders and I began buying production folders again (I was also spending more time in the city, so I had more use for folders).

id buy a nice folder and a small fixed blade(wont go into brands/makers, everyone's opinion varies) to throw into the rotation, but Ive always carried one of each.

I would spend the money on a custom folder. Not a mid tech that has CNC operations or the like, but a knife that has been hand made by a sole author.
