I finally saved enough money to get myself an Umfaan.
Now i have another problem; which one to choose ?:D

There is one sun and spear umfaan and one striped umfaan, both with stonewashed blades, these two are brand new, and there is also a plain jane stonewashed umfaan with polished blade, it has minor scratching of the handle but not on the blade.
All have the double thumb studs, but that seems to be normal in umfaans i presume.

What would you do ?

I prefer plain-Jane, but that's just me. Where are these knives, anyways?

These knives are all in Hans Brinker country, or Holland as we like to call it.
Keep in mind though, although our country is quite small, prices for especially knives are quite big.
An Umfaan is going to set you back around 500 Euro over here,:thumbdn:

You have to keep your eyes peeled for an Umfaan. They periodically pop up on eBay.

That is like $700 USD, right? I would get the sun and spear. DO let us know what you get.

I finally got the plain jane Umfaan.:D
I think you all believe me when i say that it is rather difficult to decide which one it's going to be when there are 3 of those beauties in front of you on the table.
Now the sun and spear Umfaan was actually on my mind, but it had one minor problem; it could not shave.
Ofcourse nothing a Sharpmaker couldn't fix, but when i spend that much on a knife, some things just have to be good from the start.
The striped version also seemed perfect, with a shaving edge, but the striping just doesn't appeal to me that much.

My new plain jane Umfaan has double thumbstuds, no blade play in any direction ofcourse and is a joy to handle.
I should have gotten this one much earlier, now i finally understand the Perrin review from a few years ago.
Mine is from 1999, and complete with box, papers, allen wrench and small natural coloured leather pocket sheath.

I find a few things strange on the 3 Umfaans that i handled.
First, mine has a plain jane handle, so blasted titanium, but the hollow part of the blade is polished, or satin finish as it looks to me.
Both other ones, although decorated, have a stonewashed blade.
Vice versa would seem more logical to me, but who am i to judge.

Also strange is that both handle slabs have ridges on the sides that run all the way round.
Now my small Sebbie hasn't got these ridges, does anybody know why the Umfaans have them ?

If anyone is interested in one of the Umfaans i did not buy, let me know, i will give you the name of the webshop.:)
