I understand that a number of American knife companies have their knives, maybe a few, not necessarily all, made overseas under licence.

For example, CRKT knives are made in Taiwan. A few Spyderco models are made in Japan and so on.

What are the names of these companies?

If they are made overseas, is the quality strictly maintained by the Headquarters?

I suppose one consideration is lower cost.

Still, I would like to know the names of some of these knife companies.

Off the top of my head...U.S. knife companies with knives made overseas:
1)Browning
2)Al Mar
3)A.G. Russell
4)SOG
5)Spyderco
6)Kershaw
7)Gerber
8)Marbles
The popular Japanese firms producing some of these knives include Moki, Sakai, and manufacturers under the "Seki-Cut" consortium. The blade on the "new" Al Mar Osprey is even stamped Moki! Moki and Sakai as well as the Seki Cut companies (of which Moki and Sakai are a part of) produce top quality products. I'm pretty sure Benchmade and Microtech are made solely in the U.S.
