Hey you guys, I'm a middle age knifeaholic guy who is also very interested in my Dad's activities with the 6th at Tarawa and Saipan.
Consequently, I am trying to find out what would be the closest replica of what he carried. With all the different copies being made, which one would be closest to exactly what was issued from 1942-1946? Are the materials still the same on the copies?
What was the bayonet for the M1 carbine? Where would be the best place to get one or both? Can I get an original Kabar for a reasonable price? Thanks you guys, I know I ask a lot of questions but I figure you all can help as much as anyone.

Hi Phil,
I can't truely answer your questions which is the closest replica but I can say that the Case USMC that is available at Bayou Laforche Knife Company for less than $40 is an EXACT replica of the Case issue knife of the 1940's. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The other comment I can say is that Roger at Bayou is selling this for a great price. For some reason I ordered one from him and I am very impressed. Genuine leather sheath, exceptionally done leather handle....high carbon black full tang blade that is incredibly sharp...and I mean very sharp. The USMC stamp on the sheath is very well done and it comes with a leg strap which is the only that looks fairly modern.

Not sure how much the Kabar or the Kabar shorts are going for but this is an incredible deal. Also, I can't find this knife from other dealers to compare the price but I suspect that this knife is very competatively priced.

You may want to email Roger at rogerc@bayou.com

Good luck and let me know what you decide.
